Effect of insertion site on tunnelled haemodialysis catheter outcomes: an observational study of 967 catheters

open access: yes, 2023
Background: The right internal jugular vein is the preferred approach to tunnelled haemodialysis catheter placement. However, the effect of the insertion site on long-term catheter outcomes remains uncertain.

Enhanced Infection Resistance and Regenerative Healing of Titanium Implants via Peptide‐Loaded Biodegradable Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study presents a new biodegradable coating for titanium implants using a natural antimicrobial peptide, caerin 1.9. Applied via solvent casting, the coating offers sustained antibacterial protection and promotes healing. Tested on 3D‐printed porous titanium scaffolds, it effectively prevented infection—including against resistant bacteria—while ...

Effect of radiofrequency catheter ablation on the biochemical marker ischemia modified albumin

open access: yes, 2004
Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels were measured after radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation to evaluate the effect of direct myocardial necrosis on IMA formation. IMA levels have been shown to increase in patients after RF catheter ablation compared

A Pressure Microsensor Made of Parylene‐C for Use as Medical Implant

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A monolithic parylene‐C pressure sensor with gold strain gauges provides 6.2 μV$\mu{\rm V}$·mmHg$\cdot{\rm mmHg}$−1$^{-1}$ sensitivity. The morphology of a sputtered thin film strain sensor is granular/columnar, which results in a high gauge factor of 7.5. Thermal bonding and parylene‐C coating create a hermetic cavity.

DISINFECTION OF CATHETERS. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1886
To the Editor of the Journal: Dear Sir: —Permit me in this day of "catheter fever" to offer to your readers my mode of disinfecting catheters. Dr. Alexander Skene says that when he cut into his catheters which had lain several days in a strong solution of carbolic acid, they still contained micrococci underneath the incrustation.
