Design of a Novel Type Micro-Stirrer Excited by Longitudinal Elastic Wave for Thrombus Dissolution

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering, 2011
This paper presents the method to design a novel micro stirrer for high effective dissolution of cerebral thrombus or blood clot. The micro stirrer is a beam with supported one side and the other side is attached to an asymmetrical stirrer.

Magnetic Ball Chain Robots for Cardiac Arrhythmia Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper introduces a novel magnetic navigation system for cardiac ablation. The system is formed from two key elements: a magnetic ablation catheter consisting of a chain of spherical permanent magnets; and an actuation system comprised of two cart-mounted permanent magnets undergoing pure rotation.

EbpA vaccine antibodies block binding of Enterococcus faecalis to fibrinogen to prevent catheter-associated bladder infection in mice

open access: yesScience Translational Medicine, 2014
Binding to host fibrinogen is a critical event in Enterococcus faecalis pathogenesis in catheter-associated urinary tract infections in mice. Dinner and a Biofilm Results in Catheter-Associated Infection Enterococci bacteria are a frequent cause of ...

Stress Response of Aspergillus niger Spores to Copper Surfaces and the Implications for Antifungal Surface Functionalization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study investigates the antifungal efficacy of ultrashort pulsed laser‐induced periodic surface structures (USP‐DLIP) on copper, brass, and steel surfaces. Using Aspergillus niger as a model, the research highlights a 99% reduction in spore viability on 9 µm structured copper surfaces due to enhanced copper ion release. Scanning electron microscopy

Durable Bio‐Based Nanocomposite Coating on Urinary Catheters Prevents Early‐Stage CAUTI‐Associated Pathogenicity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A stable bio‐based nanocomposite coating for urinary catheters is developed using a simple, environmentally‐friendly sonochemical process. The coating, integrating antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and antioxidant properties, effectively tackled multiple early‐stage pathogenic factors associated with catheter‐associated urinary tract infections.

Efficacy of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea with and without continuous positive airway pressure treatment: a meta-analysis of observational studies.

open access: yesEuropace, 2014
AIMS An association between obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and atrial fibrillation (AF) has been established. However, studies on the role of OSA in AF recurrence after catheter ablation have yielded conflicting results, and the effect of OSA treatment ...

Modulating Stiffness and Shape of a Soft, Textile‐Based Structure Through Glass Transition of a Conductive Phase‐Changing Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A variable stiffness structure with shape morphing and shape memory capabilities made from layered textiles and 3D printing material is developed. Direct printing of cPLA on textile electrodes maximizes the electrodes' contact area. This work presents a new method for achieving variable stiffness in small segments of soft, deformable structures, using ...
