Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation of Atrioventricular Nodal Reentrant Tachycardia in Patient with Interruption of Inferior Vena Cava

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, 2009
We present a 72-year-old man with interruption of inferior vena cava (IVC) with azygos continuation, who underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation of atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT).

Modulating Stiffness and Shape of a Soft, Textile‐Based Structure Through Glass Transition of a Conductive Phase‐Changing Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A variable stiffness structure with shape morphing and shape memory capabilities made from layered textiles and 3D printing material is developed. Direct printing of cPLA on textile electrodes maximizes the electrodes' contact area. This work presents a new method for achieving variable stiffness in small segments of soft, deformable structures, using ...

Miniaturized Devices for On‐the‐Spot Generation of Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An intracorporeal extrusion device is developed for on‐the‐spot generation of vascular grafts with tunable diameters spanning from 1 to 6 mm. The device uses biomimetic polymers and light, to promptly obtaining biocompatible and high‐burst pressure‐resistant grafts.

A Bistable Assistive Device for Wireless Control of a Dysfunctional Bladder Under Minimal Stress

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This paper presents a wireless system designed to restore bladder function in patients with an underactive bladder (UAB). The system features a multilayered structure, combining a pre‐shaped restoration layer with a spring‐based actuator. The system delivers 95–100% voiding efficiency within a 10‐s activation while ensuring minimal stress on the ...

Impact of body mass index on the outcome of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation

open access: yesHeart, 2018
Objectives The association between obesity and atrial fibrillation (AF) is well-established. We aimed to evaluate the impact of index body mass index (BMI) on AF recurrence at 12 months following catheter ablation using propensity-weighted analysis.

Cosserat Rods for Modeling Tendon-Driven Robotic Catheter Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Tendon-driven robotic catheters are capable of precise execution of minimally invasive cardiac procedures including ablations and imaging. These procedures require accurate mathematical models of not only the catheter and tendons but also their interactions with surrounding tissue and vasculature in order to control the robot path and interaction. This

Cardiac tamponade in catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation: German-wide analysis of 21 141 procedures in the Helios atrial fibrillation ablation registry (SAFER)

open access: yesEuropace, 2018
Aims Catheter ablation is an established therapy in patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) with increasing popularity. Pericardial effusion requiring intervention (PE) is one of the most threatening adverse outcomes. The aim of this study was

Catheter ablation for ventricular tachycardia in patients with cardiac sarcoidosis: a systematic review

open access: yesEuropace, 2018
Aims Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) is associated with a poor prognosis. Important features of CS include heart failure, conduction abnormalities, and ventricular arrhythmias.
