Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation in Children with Supraventricular Tachycardias: Intermediate Term Follow up Results

open access: yesClinical Medicine Insights: Cardiology, 2012
The Purpose of the Study Radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation represents an important advance in the management of children with cardiac arrhythmias and has rapidly become the standard and effective line of therapy for supraventricular tachycardias ...

Is Human Atrial Fibrillation Stochastic or Deterministic? [PDF]

open access: yesChaos 28, 063130 (2018), 2018
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia in human beings, and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The current standard of care includes interventional catheter ablation in selected patients, but the success rate is limited.

Catheter Ablation Versus Best Medical Therapy in Patients With Persistent Atrial Fibrillation and Congestive Heart Failure: The Randomized AMICA Trial.

open access: yesCirculation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, 2019
BACKGROUND Optimal treatment of patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and an indication for internal defibrillator therapy is controversial. METHODS Patients with

Engineered Peptides‐Based Hybrid‐Nested Microneedle Effectively Treat Biofilm‐Infected Diabetic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid‐nested microneedle/cryogel scaffold (MQW‐CMg‐MOF) is designed for efficient biofilm removal and accelerated healing of diabetic wounds. The scaffold shows substantial biofilm removal in vitro and in a preclinical diabetic swine biofilm‐infected wound model compared to the control.

Combination of frequency-and time-domain characteristics of the fibrillatory waves for enhanced prediction of persistent atrial fibrillation recurrence after catheter ablation [PDF]

open access: yesHeliyon 2024(3)
Catheter ablation (CA) remains the cornerstone alternative to cardioversion for sinus rhythm (SR) restoration in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Unfortunately, despite the last methodological and technological advances, this procedure is not consistently effective in treating persistent AF.

Biofilm Control by Active Topography with Mucin Coating

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a new antifouling strategy based on a bioinspired design. Mucin coating enhances biofilm control by active topography with beating micron‐sized pillars. Besides the mechanical force of beating pillars, the antibiofilm activities also involve biological factors since mucin coating inhibits swarming motility and c‐di‐GMP synthesis in ...

An In Situ Curing, Shear‐Responsive Biomaterial Designed for Durable Embolization of Microvasculature

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
NeoCast is a next‐generation, solvent‐free, non‐adhesive liquid embolic designed for indications where deep occlusion is desired (e.g., tumors and chronic subdural hematoma). This novel agent offers ideal embolic properties: injectability, controllability, excellent visibility, and biocompatibility.

Magnetic Ball Chain Robots for Cardiac Arrhythmia Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper introduces a novel magnetic navigation system for cardiac ablation. The system is formed from two key elements: a magnetic ablation catheter consisting of a chain of spherical permanent magnets; and an actuation system comprised of two cart-mounted permanent magnets undergoing pure rotation.

An automated near-real time computational method for induction and treatment of scar-related ventricular tachycardias [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Catheter ablation is currently the only curative treatment for scar-related ventricular tachycardias (VTs). However, not only are ablation procedures long, with relatively high risk, but success rates are punitively low, with frequent VT recurrence. Personalized in-silico approaches have the opportunity to address these limitations.

Hollow‐Structured Nanorobot with Excellent Magnetic Propulsion for Catalytic Pollutant Degradation, Anti‐Bacterial and Biofilm Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A hollow‐structured Fe3O4@AgAu@PDA‐ZnPc nanosphere has been developed, exhibiting controllable catalytic activity and “photothermal‐photodynamic‐Ag+” coupling antibacterial characteristics. When subjected to a rotating magnetic field, these performances are uniquely enhanced by magnetic propulsion, allowing the nanosphere to function as a magnetic ...
