Access via the internal jugular vein [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Central venous access via the internal jugular vein (IJV) is safe, relatively easy and very commonly used in infants and children undergoing cardiac surgery for congenital heart disease. Because of the wide range of anatomical variations an ultrasound-

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...

Unusual intravascular complication of right internal jugular vein catheter piercing the SVC into the pericardium: Case report

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2019
Iatrogenic superior vena cava pericardial fistula caused by central venous catheterization is rare but can lead to life-threatening condition. Despite the potential risk of pericardial effusion causing pericardial tamponade, a conservative watch and wait

Guide Wire Entrapment during Central Venous Catheterization [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Critical Care Medicine, 2014
We experienced a case of venous vessel wall entrapment between the introducer needle and the guide wire during an attempt to perform right internal jugular vein (IJV) catheterization.

Superior vena cava obstruction presenting with epistaxis, haemoptysis and gastro-intestinal haemorrhage in two men receiving haemodialysis with central venous catheters: two case reports [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Introduction Superior vena cava (SVC) obstruction secondary to central venous catheterization is an increasingly recognized complication. Case presentation We present two cases of superior vena cava obstruction secondary to indwelling central venous ...

Elastomeric Micro‐Balloons for Remote Control of Cerebral Blood Flow and Real‐Time In vivo Imaging of Rodent Brain Response to Hypoperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of MRI‐compatible elastomeric micro‐balloons via a multi‐step bubble casting process, where the monolithic elastomeric wall is selectively stiffened for reversible and controlled inflation and elasticity, depending on the target vessels for graded occlusion of cerebral arteries.

A retrospective cohort study of implantable venous access port-related and peripherally inserted central catheter-related complications in patients with hematological malignancies in China

open access: yesSAGE Open Medicine
Objective: We explored the differences in deep venous catheterization-associated complications between patients with hematological malignancies after peripherally inserted central catheter placement and such patients after implantable venous access port ...

Recurrent Chylothorax Caused by a Retained Guidewire in a Central Vein: A Case Report

open access: yesAnnals of Geriatric Medicine and Research, 2017
The loss of a guidewire occurs very rarely during central venous catheterization (CVC). Guidewire loss can lead to serious mechanical, thrombotic, and infectious complications. A 74-year-old woman was admitted to our institution with dyspnea.
