Critical Care Clinics, 1992
Procedures involving invasion of the peritoneal cavity are often performed on critically ill or injured patients. Like any invasive procedure, they require a thorough understanding not only of their techniques and indications, but also of their contraindications and complications.

Arterial catheterization is used frequently in the management of critically ill patients, both for continuous blood pressure monitoring and access to the arterial circulation to obtain frequent blood gas measurements. The procedure is usually easily accomplished at the bedside using percutaneous methods such as the Seldinger technique to cannulate the ...

Accident and Emergency Nursing, 2001
The insertion of catheters into male emergency patients is fairly common practice and is associated with a worryingly high rate of infection. Everyday pressures within the department, along with the added stress of resuscitation can result in inappropriately trained or skilled staff undertaking this procedure.

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1989
ABSTRACT A new atraumatic technique for identifying the medial cut end of a surgically lacerated canaliculus is described. It offers the advantage of allowing the surgeon to pass a stent through the canaliculus only, without surgically manipulating the lacrimal sac or nasolacrimal duct or damaging the ipsilateral canaliculus.

Selective Cerebral Catheterization
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1970This paper describes a new method for selective cerebral catheterization based on the Pod catheter [6], [7], guided and propelled by means of external magnetic fields. The principles of the Pod catheter, and the necessary equipment are described, and conclusions are drawn from experiments with a glass model.

Urinary Catheterization: a Paradigm Shift in Difficult Urinary Catheterization
Current Urology Reports, 2016The urinary catheter is an ancient device for urinary drainage in patients. Placement of a urethral catheter is a common medical procedure that may have led to morbidity and mortality. Urethral catheterization is commonly performed by a nurse. Difficult catheter placement generates urology consultation.

Interventional catheterization
Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2000Several investigations have been performed to evaluate the mid-term results of coil embolization for patent ductus arteriosus. Excellent results were obtained with coils if the minimum diameter of the ductus was less than 4 mm. Balloon dilation of native coarctation and recoarctation may be associated with complications such as aneurysm formation ...

Imaging in the catheterization laboratory
Current Opinion in Cardiology, 1991In the past decade, there has been dramatic growth in the number of catheterization procedures, with over 1.3 million performed in 1990. In the past year, several large studies have documented the clinical safety of nonionic contrast agents for performing angiography. These agents are much more expensive than conventional high-osmolarity ionic agents,
