Leukocyte count and new‐onset diabetes mellitus in people with HIV: A longitudinal study

open access: yesHIV Medicine, Volume 26, Issue 10, Page 1585-1599, October 2025.
Abstract Objectives The risk of diabetes mellitus (DM) is increased in people with HIV. Chronic inflammation contributes to DM risk. High leukocytes are associated with DM in the general population, but in people with HIV, evidence of a leukocyte–DM association is limited. Methods We included participants of the Swiss HIV Cohort Study with new‐onset DM

The Introduction of Extended Out‐of‐Home Care (OOHC) Until 21 Years in Australia: A Mapping of Policy, Legislation and Programs in Each Jurisdiction

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, Volume 60, Issue 3, Page 689-700, September 2025.
ABSTRACT It is increasingly recognised by global research that extending out‐of‐home care (OOHC) until at least 21 years of age is the policy reform most likely to advance improved outcomes for care leavers. In recent years, all eight Australian jurisdictions (States and Territories) have introduced forms of extended care programs.

The Juvenile Parkinson's Disease Mutation C212Y Impairs Mitochondrial Homeostasis in a Caenorhabditis elegans Model

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 16, 31 August 2025.
Only a small subset of the Parkin missense mutations have been studied. Considering the high conservation of the protein, we examined the feasibility of generating a PD disease missense mutation in C. elegans using the Crispr/Cas9 technology. Shown here is the PDR‐1C169Y allele, the equivalent mutation of Parkin C212Y identified in autosomal recessive ...

SGLT2 inhibitor with and without ALDosterone AntagonIst for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: Design paper

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 4, Page 3134-3144, August 2025.
Abstract Background Sodium glucose co‐transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRA) reduce heart failure (HF) events in patients with heart failure and mildly reduced or preserved ejection fraction (HFmr/pEF). The randomized comparison of SGLT2i/MRA combination versus SGLT2i or MRA alone requires further testing in ...

CDK13‐Related Disorder: Novel Insights From A Series of 27 Cases and Recommendations for Clinical Management

open access: yesClinical Genetics, Volume 108, Issue 2, Page 146-155, August 2025.
This report described 27 novel subject with CDK13‐related disorders. Collecting the clinical and radiological data, we better define the phenotypic spectrum of this condition and we suggest a comprehensive clinical management. ABSTRACT In 2016, Sifrim and colleagues described the first group of patients carrying heterozygous pathogenic variants in ...

Adenosine A3 receptor antagonists as anti‐tumor treatment in human prostate cancer: an in vitro study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 15, Issue 7, Page 1159-1175, July 2025.
The A3 adenosine receptors (A3ARs) are overexpressed in prostate cancer. AR 292 and AR 357, as A3AR antagonists, are capable of blocking proliferation, modulating the expression of drug transporter genes involved in chemoresistance, ferroptosis, and the hypoxia response, and inducing cell death.

Effects of GBA1 Variants in Patients With Parkinson's Disease and Levodopa–Carbidopa Intestinal Gel: A Nation‐Wide, Multicenter, Longitudinal, “Real‐World” Study. The EPIC Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 32, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Background The outcome of levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) in Parkinson's disease carriers of GBA1 mutations (GBA‐PD) remains uncertain. Objective To evaluate the safety and efficacy of LCIG in a large PD cohort, focusing on GBA1 variants.
