Cattleya porphyrascens, a new species (Laeliinae) of the genus Cattleya is described for Minas Gerais State, Brazil

A new species of Orchidaceae of the genus Cattleya is described, illustrated, and compared to similar species in morphological and ecological aspects. The new taxon was encountered in the municipality of Diamantina, in the Sempre Vivas National Park, Minas Gerais State (Espinhaço Meridional Complex), Brazil.

The biosynthesis of organofluorine compounds byStreptomyces cattleyaNRRL 8057 was examined using19F NMR spectroscopy. The organism produced 12 mM fluoroacetate and 05 mM 4-fluorothreonine as secondary metabolites when cultured for 28 d on a chemically defined medium containing 2 mM fluoride.

A eficiência do cultivo in vitro de orquídeas está associada aos meios de cultura utilizados e, principalmente, aos fitorreguladores. O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a influência de paclobutrazol (PBZ) no desenvolvimento de plântulas de Cattleya labiata Lindley e Cattleya eldorado Linden, cultivadas in vitro.
