Data assimilation with extremum Monte Carlo methods
This study presents the extremum Monte Carlo filter as a data assimilation method and, in particular, a variant of the variational approach (three‐ and four‐dimensional variational), where the state estimates are obtained by solving an optimization problem numerically over a space of prediction functions, instead of the state space itself.

ABSTRACT This paper is concerned with the platooning control problem of connected automated vehicles (CAVs) under non‐uniform stochastic vehicle‐to‐vehicle (V2V) communication delays. Most existing relevant studies assume uniform or deterministic or slowly varying delays, or design platoon controllers based on worst‐case delay bounds, resulting in ...

Cauchy's functional equation and Gaussian measures [PDF]
AbstractThis article summarizes several examples of the way in which Gaussian measures can be used to obtain results about solutions to Cauchy's functional equation in both finite and infinite dimensions.

ABSTRACT The breathing system of an oil‐immersed transformer is of vital importance for maintaining equilibrium between internal and external pressures, with any malfunction potentially disrupting the transformer's stable operation. This study develops a thermal–fluid–structure interaction (TFSI) model to simulate the breathing phenomenon in a 110 kV ...

Characterization of a Resistive Half Plane over a Resistive Sheet
The diffraction of a resistive half plane over a planar resistive sheet under plane wave illum1ination is determined via the dual integral equation method (a variation of the Wiener-Hopf method).

Abstract Smallholder market participation studies often focus narrowly on selling decisions, overlooking the institutional role of agricultural cooperatives, particularly in contexts like Rwanda, where cooperatives underpin agricultural policy. Consequently, empirical evidence on how cooperative membership shapes farmers’ commercialization across ...

On the selection of materials for cryogenic seals and the testing of their performance [PDF]
Three questions are addressed: what mission must a cryogenic seal perform; what are the contrasts between desirable and available seal materials; and how realistic must test conditions be.

Abstract The Natura 2000 (N2K) network of protected areas is one of the main tools for area‐based conservation in the European Union (EU), yet its role in preserving plant biodiversity requires better understanding. We examined data kept in the European Vegetation Archive from over 1.2 million vegetation plots and obtained over 14.2 million plant ...

Study of basic physical processes in liquid rocket engines [PDF]
Inconsistencies between analytical results and measurements for liquid rocket thrust chamber performance, which escape suitable explanations, have motivated the examination of the basic phys ical modeling formulations as to their unlimited application ...

ABSTRACT Metal additive manufacturing (AM) provides a pathway for creating highly optimized components that would be difficult to produce using traditional manufacturing methods. However, regardless of printing parameters or postprocessing, porosity remains a prevalent challenge in AM components because strain concentrates in the vicinity of the pore ...
