Comparison of the Fully Automated FilmArray BCID Assay to a 4‐Hour Culture Test Coupled to Mass Spectrometry for Day 0 Identification of Microorganisms in Positive Blood Cultures

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Rapid bacterial identification of positive blood culture is important for adapting the antimicrobial therapy in patients with blood stream infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the multiplex FilmArray Blood Culture Identification (BCID) assay by comparison to an in‐house protocol based on MALDI‐TOF MS identification of ...

The taxonomic history of Pilosella floribunda (Asteraceae), a common hybridogenous aggregate of central, northern and eastern Europe

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2024, Issue 11, November 2024.
The taxonomic history, nomenclature and application of one of the oldest species names in Pilosella are reviewed. Hieracium floribundum originally included a hybrid swarm with the participation of Pilosella lactucella, P. caespitosa, P. praealta and partly P. officinarum, and was interpreted either as a binary (P. lactucella × P. caespitosa) or triple (

Molecular Epidemiology of Invasive Listeriosis due to Listeria monocytogenes in a Spanish Hospital over a Nine‐Year Study Period, 2006–2014

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
We investigated the pathogenicity, invasiveness, and genetic relatedness of 17 clinical Listeria monocytogenes stains isolated over a period of nine years (2006–2014). All isolates were phenotypically characterised and growth patterns were determined. The antimicrobial susceptibility of L. monocytogenes isolates was determined in E‐tests.

Is the secondary thickening in palms always diffuse?

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2013
Unlike other arboreal monocotyledons, the secondary growth of palms has for the past 100 years been described as diffuse. Solely cell enlargement and random parenchyma divisions, without the activity of a meristem, characterize such growth. Some previous
