The Causal-Compositional Concept of Information—Part II: Information through Fairness: How Does the Relationship between Information, Fairness and Language Evolve, Stimulate the Development of (New) Computing Devices and Help to Move towards the Information Society

open access: yesInformation, 2012
We are moving towards the information society, and we need to overcome the discouraging perspective, which is caused by the false belief that our thoughts (and thereby also our acting) represent a somehow externally existing world.

Hydroxychloroquine Associated With Lower Glomerular Filtration Rate Decline in Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) protects kidney function in lupus nephritis (LN) by preventing flares, yet some cohort studies show no significant benefit in kidney function with HCQ. Clarifying these conflicting findings by showing early and long‐term benefits of HCQ on kidney function preservation is critical.

Causality and Nonlocality as Axioms for Quantum Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Quantum mechanics permits nonlocality - both nonlocal correlations and nonlocal equations of motion - while respecting relativistic causality. Is quantum mechanics the unique theory that reconciles nonlocality and causality? We consider two models, going

Causal interactions and delays in a neuronal ensemble

open access: yes, 2006
We analyze a neural system which mimics a sensorial cortex, with different input characteristics, in presence of transmission delays. We propose a new measure to characterize collective behavior, based on the nonlinear extension of the concept of Granger

Adipokines and Associations With Incident Osteoporotic Fracture in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We assessed whether circulating adipokines are associated with incident fractures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods Three adipokines (adiponectin, leptin, and fibroblast growth factor [FGF]‐21) were measured using banked enrollment serum from participants in a longitudinal RA cohort.

Ludwik Silberstein o przyczynowości w przyrodzie

open access: yesZagadnienia Filozoficzne w Nauce, 2011
In this paper we present the opinions of Ludwik Silberstein (1872-1948) on the question of causality in the scientific investigations. The discussion is based on the examples taken from physics and astronomy. Silberstein is convinced that the principle of

Intrinsic Universality of Causal Graph Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2013
Causal graph dynamics are transformations over graphs that capture two important symmetries of physics, namely causality and homogeneity. They can be equivalently defined as continuous and translation invariant transformations or functions induced by a ...

Are Causality Violations Undesirable?

open access: yes, 2010
Causality violations are typically seen as unrealistic and undesirable features of a physical model. The following points out three reasons why causality violations, which Bonnor and Steadman identified even in solutions to the Einstein equation ...
