Caustics Mapping: An Image-Space Technique for Real-Time Caustics [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2007
In this paper, we present a simple and practical technique for real-time rendering of caustics from reflective and refractive objects. Our algorithm, conceptually similar to shadow mapping, consists of two main parts: creation of a caustic map texture, and utilization of the map to render caustics onto nonshiny surfaces.

Caustic Intoxication

Acta Clinica Belgica, 1990
After a retrospective study of 17 cases of caustic intoxication in the intensive care unit, the epidemiologic, pathophysiologic, clinic and therapeutic aspects are reviewed. The following procedure is suggested: early endoscopies, abstention of any gastric lavage, corticosteroids and empiric antibiotic therapy and the most early possible introduction ...

Complex Caustics of the Elliptic Billiard [PDF]

open access: yesArnold Mathematical Journal, 2020
International audienceThe article studies a generalization of the elliptic billiard to the complex domain. We show that the billiard orbits also have caustics, and that the number of such caustics is bigger than for the real case.

Caustic ingestion

The Lancet, 2017
Corrosive ingestion is a rare but potentially devastating event and, despite the availability of effective preventive public health strategies, injuries continue to occur. Most clinicians have limited personal experience and rely on guidelines; however, uncertainty persists about best clinical practice.

Stylized Caustics: Progressive Rendering of Animated Caustics

Computer Graphics Forum, 2016
AbstractIn recent years, much work was devoted to the design of light editing methods such as relighting and light path editing. So far, little work addressed the target‐based manipulation and animation of caustics, for instance to a differently‐shaped caustic, text or an image.

Caustics

DeckerMed Emergency Medicine, 2016
A caustic is any substance capable of causing full-thickness damage on contact with healthy, intact tissue. Caustic agents are generally classified by pH as acids or bases. Irritants are those substances that do not produce true breakdown of tissue but cause discomfort and inflammation, such as vomiting, burning eyes, or coughing.

Goal‐based Caustics

Computer Graphics Forum, 2011
AbstractWe propose a novel system for designing and manufacturing surfaces that produce desired caustic images when illuminated by a light source. Our system is based on a nonnegative image decomposition using a set of possibly overlapping anisotropic Gaussian kernels.
