The filtration procedures of trephine, iridencleisis, and corneoscleral cautery are compared to show the superiority of the latter. Pathologic vertification of the three operations suggests the reason for success. Several changes in the original technique as described by Schele are suggested.

Cautery‐assisted palatal stiffening operation
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2000Outpatient surgical therapy of habitual snoring and mild obstructive sleep apnea has evolved significantly in recent years. We introduce the cautery‐assisted palatal stiffening operation (CAPSO) and detail its important advantages over uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, laser‐assisted uvulopalatoplasty, and palatal radiofrequency ablation.

Iridectomy with Scleral Cautery
International Ophthalmology Clinics, 1981I have described modifications that have evolved over the years in doing iridectomy with cautery and have reviewed some of my experiences with the method. All filtering operations leave a great deal to be desired. Each technique has certain advantages and disadvantages. A great advantage of the cautery procedure is its safety and simplicity.

Sterilization by cornual cautery
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1968Description of a new technique of cornual cauterization for female sterilization as performed in 89 multiparous patients is presented. Instead of the use of fluoroscopy the cautery point is passed through the lateral wall of the cervix and dipped in the cornual recess. Cauterization requires 15-20 seconds of electrical charge on each side.

SUMMARY Trabeculectomy with cautery was performed on 31 eyes of 25 glaucoma patients uncontrolled on maximal medical therapy. The procedure was designed to combine the effectiveness of Scheie's thermal sclerostomy with the low incidence of complications associated with trabeculectomy.
