Biofabrication of Endothelialized, Intrinsically Vascularized 3D‐Printed Recombinant Spider Silk Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study evaluates 3D‐printed recombinant spider silk hydrogel eADF4(C16)‐RGD in a rat AV loop model for tissue engineering. Constructs with T17b endothelial progenitor cells showed enhanced vascularization and biodegradation. Results highlight the importance of scaffold design and cellular integration in improving vascular density and overall ...

Changing trend of cataract blindness and visual outcomes after cataract surgery in adults aged 50 years and older: findings from the national eye surveys in Malaysia

open access: yesBMJ Open Ophthalmology
Background/aims Population surveys are required to measure the prevalence of cataract blindness in the community. We conducted simultaneous surveys in two regions in Malaysia in 2023 to estimate the prevalence of untreated cataract, measure the visual ...

Eogenetic caves in conglomerate: an example from Udin Boršt, Slovenia [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 2011
Udin Boršt is a karstified terrace of carbonate rock, which is of fluvioglacial origin, and is situated in the north-western part of Slovenia. There are 15 registered caves, which have been interpreted as caves in conglomerate, while karst of Udin Boršt ...

Speleotourism in Slovenia: balancing between mass tourism and geoheritage protection

open access: yesOpen Geosciences, 2018
Slovenia is considered as the cradle of karst geotourism as cave tourism started there as early as the Middle Ages. To date more than 12,000 caves were discovered from which 22 have the status of tourist caves.

Proof of the Standard Quantum Limit for Monitoring Free-Mass Position

open access: yes, 2010
The measurement result of the moved distance for a free mass m during the time t between two position measurements cannot be predicted with uncertainty smaller than sqrt{hbar t/2m}.

Taming the Immiscibility of Gold, Iron, and Boron to Craft Chemodegradable Nanoparticles for Multimodal Imaging and Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Over half of cancer patients undergo radiotherapy. Laser ablation enabled the synthesis of immiscible Au‐Fe‐B nanoparticles designed as degradable bimodal radiosensitizers for X‐ray radiotherapy (XRT), boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and bimodal imaging for X‐ray computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These nanosensitizers

Differences between caves with and without bats in a Brazilian karst habitat

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2017
. Since bats shelter in roosts during their period of diurnal inactivity, the quality and availability of roosts are important aspects of their ecology.

Wound Geometry Determines Whether Aligned‐Fiber Scaffolds Accelerate or Impede Diabetic Wound Healing: A Biased Random Walk Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Wound closure is governed by geometry‐orientation coupling: aligned fibers speed migration along their axis but hinder perpendicular advance. In vivo diabetic wound experiments with composition‐matched fibrin, combined with an anisotropic diffusion (biased random‐walk) model, quantify this trade‐off and generate a healing landscape.

Effect of Various Treatments on Seed Germination and Proline accumulation in Dolichandrone falcata (Wall. ex DC.) Seem [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stress Physiology & Biochemistry
Objectives: To study the effects of various treatments on seed germination of Dolichandrone falcata (Wall. Ex DC.) Seem. by using different substrates; and also, to study the accumulation of proline as a stress response to the given treatments ...
