The Patagonian Mara Dolichotis patagonum (Zimmermann, 1780) (Rodentia, Caviomorpha, Caviidae) in the Late Pleistocene of Northern Uruguay: Body Mass, Paleoenvironmental and Biogeographical Connotations

Fossil Studies
The extant Patagonian mara Dolichotis patagonum (Zimmermann, 1780) is a cursorial herbivorous rodent that is hare-like in appearance. Nowadays, it occurs in some ecoregions of Argentina (28 °S–50 °S) in lowland habitats, in semi-arid thorn-scrub, in open

Chromosome studies in some members of the family Caviidae (Mammalia: Rodentia)

Journal of Zoology, 1972
A study of the chromosomes of Cavia aperea and Galea musteloides has been made following the introduction into captivity of these two cavies from Argentina. The evolutionary relationships of the two genera have been considered, and the possible ancestry of C. porcellus from C. aperea was investigated in hybrids of the two species.

Effect of gnawing byMicrocavia australis(Rodentia, Caviidae) onGeoffroea decorticans(Leguminosae) plants

Journal of Arid Environments, 1999
The impact of gnawing byMicrocavia australison the survival ofGeoffroea decorticansplants was studied in the Monte Desert of Argentina. Sampled plants (N=105) were selected randomly from two different colonies ofM. australis. For each plant sampled the following properties were measured: the diameter of the trunk at ground level; the distance to the ...

Development of yolk sac inversion in Galea spixii and Cavia porcellus (Rodentia, Caviidae)

Placenta, 2012
Caviomorph development includes an inverted yolk sac. Since principle processes are not understood, we investigated its differentiation in Galea and re-examined material from the guinea pig. Galea showed the typical caviomorph conditions in blastocyst development and the nature of the definitive yolk sac, formed of the visceral layer that became ...

Whole mitochondrial genome sequence for an osteoarthritis model of Guinea pig (Caviidae; Cavia )

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
Animal models played an important role in osteoarthritis studies. Here, the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the Guinea pig was reported for the first time. The total length of the mitogenome was 16,797 bp. It contained the typical structure, including two ribosomal RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and one non-coding ...

New Species in the Genus Monoecocestus (Cestoda: Anoplocephalidae) From Neotropical Rodents (Caviidae and Sigmodontinae)

Journal of Parasitology, 2010
Anoplocephalid cestodes have a worldwide distribution, but relatively few species are known from South American rodents. By examining the collections of the Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology and the United States National Parasite Collection, 6 new species of Monoecocestus Beddard, 1914, are described, along with a redescription of ...
