Deciphering the Hantavirus Host Range Combining Virology and Species Distribution Models with an Emphasis on the Yellow Pygmy Rice Rat (Oligoryzomys flavescens)

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Hantaviruses are the causative agents of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) in the Americas. In Central and South America, 28 hantavirus lineages were associated with different Sigmodontinae rodents. Of these, Lechiguanas hantavirus was initially described as a lineage associated with HPS cases in the central region of Argentina.

The First Capybaras (Rodentia, Caviidae, Hydrochoerinae) Involved in the Great American Biotic Interchange [PDF]

open access: yesAmeghiniana, 2015
Abstract. The new combination Phugatherium dichroplax nov. comb. (Ahearn and Lance) is proposed for the North American species “Neochoerus” dichroplax Ahearn and Lance, and “N.” cordobai Carranza-Castaneda and Miller. Its age range is here expanded (late Early Blancan—latest Blancan; Piacenzian—Gelasian), being the youngest species of Phugatherium and ...
