Surface tension of cavitation bubbles. [PDF]

open access: yesProc Natl Acad Sci U S A, 2023
We have studied homogeneous cavitation in liquid nitrogen and normal liquid helium. We monitor the fluid content in a large number of independent mesopores with an ink-bottle shape, either when the fluid in the pores is quenched to a constant pressure or submitted to a pressure decreasing at a controlled rate.

Shockwaves from air bubbles within pits induced by nearby cavitation bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
The cavitation intensity in near-boundary regions was significantly affected by the smoothness of boundaries. Micro pits on these boundaries may harbor smaller air bubbles or gas nuclei, and cavitation bubbles within cavitation clouds or cavitation ...

Nonlinear dynamics and acoustic emissions of interacting cavitation bubbles in viscoelastic tissues [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2021
The cavitation-mediated bioeffects are primarily associated with the dynamic behaviors of bubbles in viscoelastic tissues, which involves complex interactions of cavitation bubbles with surrounding bubbles and tissues.

Mechanics of collapsing cavitation bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2016
A brief survey is given of the dynamical phenomena accompanying the collapse of cavitation bubbles. The discussion includes shock waves, microjets and the various ways in which collapsing bubbles produce damage.

Numerical investigation on jet-enhancement effect and interaction of out-of-phase cavitation bubbles excited by thermal nucleation [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
Understanding the formation and interactions of out-of-phase cavitation bubbles is crucial for comprehensively exploring cavitation processes in both nature and engineering applications.

The dynamics of cavitation bubbles in a sealed vessel. [PDF]

open access: yesUltrason Sonochem, 2022
A model of cavitation bubbles is derived in liquid confined in an elastic sealed vessel driven by ultrasound. In this model, an assumption that the pressure acting on the sealed vessel due to bubble pulsations is proportional to total volume change of bubbles is made. Numerical simulations are carried out for a single bubble and for bubbles.

The Dynamics of Cavitation Bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mechanics, Transactions ASME, 1949
Abstract Three regimes of liquid flow over a body are defined, namely: (a) noncavitating flow; (b) cavitating flow with a relatively small number of cavitation bubbles in the field of flow; and (c) cavitating flow with a single large cavity about the body.

Pump-probe X-ray holographic imaging of laser-induced cavitation bubbles with femtosecond FEL pulses [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Cavitation bubbles show many nonlinear characteristics of liquid and gas phase. Here the authors demonstrate coherent diffractive imaging of cavitation bubble using infrared pump and XFEL probe and discuss the formation and evolution of the bubbles.

Mass transfer of acoustic cavitation bubbles in multi-bubble environment. [PDF]

open access: yesUltrason Sonochem
The mass transfer around acoustic cavitation in a multi-bubble environment was numerically studied. To model the multi-bubble environment, several bubbles were placed at the vertices of the polyhedron, and one bubble was placed at the center, and then an ultrasonic pressure wave with a frequency of 20 kHz was imposed along the simulation boundary box ...

Interaction between cavitation bubbles and plastrons on superhydrophobic surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
The interaction between cavitation bubbles and plastrons on superhydrophobic surfaces was investigated using a low-voltage discharge device and high-speed photography techniques.
