Erosion characteristics in ultrasonic cavitation

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2009
Cavitation erosion is accomplished by a magnetostrictive transducer at different experiment input powers using column steel samples. The distribution characteristics of bubbles on the emitting surfaces are observed at different times. The photo records show that ultrasonic bubbles distributed on the emitting surface will converge and form some ...

Profile characteristics in cavitating and non-cavitating flows

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1971
In this paper some of the findings of an analysis of the experimental results of tests with eight propeller blade-section type profiles in two-dimensional, stationary, non-cavitating and cavitating flow in the large cavitation tunnel of the Netherlands Ship Model Basin are given.

Investigation of the Disk Cavitator Cavitating Flow Characteristics under Relatively High Cavitation Number

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2010
Simulations on two-phase cavitating flows containing water and vapor, on axisymmetric body with disk cavitator have been implemented through the cavitation model in Fluent 6.2, the flow field around cavitator under different incoming conditions is studied respectively, and analyses to parameters pertinent to cavity including dimension, streamlines ...

Determination of the In Vivo Cavitation Nuclei Characteristics of Blood

ASAIO Journal, 1999
Cavitation has been documented in the in vitro testing of blood-handling devices. To predict whether cavitation will occur clinically, the nuclei content of blood and the threshold pressure for activation of the in situ nuclei must be characterized. A single-pass flow apparatus is described for determining the nuclei characteristics of blood.

Torque and Cavitation Characteristics of Butterfly Valves

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1961
The present study deals with torque and cavitation characteristics of idealized two-dimensional and axially symmetrical butterfly valves. Theoretical results obtained for the two-dimensional case are compared with the ones obtained experimentally and by a relaxation technique. Based on the results of the two-dimensional case, an approximate solution is

Statistical characteristics of cavitation noise

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2002
Cavitation noise originates as a superposition of pressure waves emitted during oscillations of individual cavitation bubbles. These pressure waves contain useful information on bubbles generating them and efforts are done to extract it. Unfortunately the pressure waves emitted by different bubbles usually overlap heavily and thus in experiments it ...

Characteristic correlation between propellers cavitating wake and cavitation noise

Applied Acoustics, 2014
Abstract The characteristic correlation between the propellers cavitating wake and their cavitation noise has been studied. Based on the viscous multiphase flow theory, the Navier–Stokes equations, a turbulence model and a cavitation model were applied to predict numerically the vapor volume fraction and the pressure in the wake.

Spectral Characteristics of Sheet/Cloud Cavitation

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2000
Cavitation observations were made using a highly instrumented 2D NACA 0015 hydrofoil mounted in a specially designed water tunnel. It was found that the dynamic characteristics of the cavitation vary considerably with various combinations of angle of attack and cavitation number, σ.

Study on the Characteristics of Cavitation and Cod Removal of an Addendum Rotational Hydrodynamic Cavitation Reactors

Asia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering
AbstractThis paper presented an addendum rotational hydrodynamic cavitation reactors (ARHCR) that enabled circumferential shear cavitation, axial cavitation, and the Venturi effect, thus increasing cavitation efficiency. The experiments on hydroxyl (·OH) release and chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal demonstrate the feasibility of cavitation ...

Characteristics of Tip Vortex Cavitation Noise

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1989
Tip vortex cavitation noise was experimentally investigated utilizing hydrofoils with an elliptic planform. The noise was monitored by an array of hydrophones. A variety of cavitating conditions were studied, including inception, fully developed vortex cavitation, and surface cavitation.
