Investigation on sediment erosion in bucket region of Pelton turbine considering cavitation

The Physics of Fluids
In the context of constructing high-head hydro-power stations, the Pelton turbine assumes a critical role as the primary energy converter. This study employs the Eulerian–Lagrangian method to simulate the multi-phase flow occurring within the Pelton ...

Effects of cavitation and erosion on submersible drainage pumps: A numerical study

The Physics of Fluids
Submersible drainage pumps are used around the world both residentially and industrially for draining water and sewage. However, these pumps are prone to wear and clogging when the flows inward contain particles and air bubbles, and the combined effects ...

Accelerated Cavitation Erosion and Sand Erosion

1962
This paper presents comparative scales for the selection of metals based on the ASME cavitation erosion test and the Stauffer sand erosion test, in which hard chromium electroplated on cast steel has been designated with a relative weight loss of 1 in both scales.

Studies on Cavitation Erosion

Journal of Basic Engineering, 1972
Cavitation damage tests of iron and steel have been carried out using two types of experimental facilities. One is a water tunnel system which presumably simulates the field conditions fairly closely and the other is a magnetostriction vibratory unit commonly used for accelerated cavitation erosion testing of metals.

Low frequency cavitation erosion

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2002
Damage of diesel engine piston sleeve liners due to cavitation of the coolant fluid can be severe. Coolant fluid additives are used to inhibit cavitation damage, and are evaluated by industry suppliers using ASTM G32-98 Standard Test Method for Cavitation Erosion Using Vibratory Apparatus.

Cavitation erosion of concrete

Hydrotechnical Construction, 1978
1. The choice of components and composition of concrete should be based on consideration of all factors of both the environment and the concrete that can have an effect on its cavitation resistance, including the climatic factor and degree of corrosiveness and erosiveness of the water. 2.

Cavitation erosion of materials

International Materials Reviews, 1986
AbstractAfter a brief historical survey of cavitation and its deleterious effects, erosion and material response are considered from the point of view of stress field generation caused by cavitation collapse and the ensuing physical and chemical processes which contribute to erosion damage.

Cavitation—Abrasion Erosion

1973
The erosive activity of a sound field can be enhanced by the addition to the liquid of finely disperse abrasive particles commensurate in size with the effective range of the shock wave created by the implosion of a cavitation bubble. In this case, besides the purely cavitation destruction of solids, the surface of the latter is further acted upon in ...

Cavitating Jet Apparatus for Cavitation Erosion Testing

1979
A submerged cavitating jet is used to erode a specimen placed in its path. The erosion depends primarily on the jet velocity, the downstream pressure, and the standoff distance of the specimen. An apparatus for erosion testing based on this principle is described. Results are presented showing the effect of these parameters on erosion.
