Cavitation erosion resistance of heat-treated NiTi

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2003
Abstract NiTi (Ti–50.8 at.% Ni) specimens were solution-treated at 1000 °C, followed by aging between 200 and 600 °C. The cavitation erosion resistance of all the aged specimens in deionized water was improved relative to the solution-treated specimen, with a maximum increase of about 8.7 times, which was achieved by aging at 500 °C. The results also

Cavitation and Erosion Resistance of Polymeric Materials

Journal of Friction and Wear, 2018
The paper analyzes the results of studies regarding the cavitation-erosion wear resistance exhibited by polyolefins in neutral, acidic, and alkaline model environments. Methods for testing the stability of polymers, measuring the subsurface temperature, and performing photo and video surface wear registration directly in the course of cavitation are ...

Cavitation erosion resistance of various material systems

Ships and Offshore Structures, 2006
Abstract Advancement in both the design and construction of high-speed ships necessitates the evaluation of cavitation erosion resistant materials. Given their weight advantages, aluminum and laminated composite materials are often chosen as construction materials for high-speed designs.

Cavitation erosion resistance of ZrC nanoceramic coating

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2019
A ZrC nanoceramic coating was prepared on the bare 316 stainless steel for improving the cavitation erosion resistance by the double glow discharge sputter technique. The phase constitution and surface microstructure of the ZrC nanoceramic coating were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and transmission electron ...

The resistance of S235JR steel to cavitation erosion

Wear, 2020
Abstract The erosion resistance of S235JR steel to flow cavitation was investigated. In order to understand an influence of steel properties and cavitation intensities on the degradation mechanisms, low-carbon S235JR steel was tested in the as-received state and after thermal treatment (annealing) under four different flow velocities.

Erosion Resistance Testing for Abrasion and Cavitation Resistant Coatings

SSPC 2015 Greencoat, 2015
Abstract Cavitation erosion of the rudder has been a serious problem in the high-speed container ship industry. It is well known that the lifetime of a conventional coating system is about 6 months against cavitation bubble collapse. Although STS 316Lstainless steel has been applied to prevent such a problem, there are several drawbacks ...

A metallurgical approach to improved cavitation-erosion resistance

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 1997
Although cavitation erosion in hydraulic systems is an old problem, the damage mechanism that culminates in material loss was not known with certainty until recently. An investigation is described that aimed at clarifying the damage mechanism in cavitation erosion and applying that knowledge to make hydraulic equipment more resistant to cavitation ...

Standard cavitation erosion resistance of building materials

Hydrotechnical Construction, 1985
1. The current method of providing cavitation safety of spillways based on the assumption of a limited amount of erosion developing during a prescribed repair period requires creating an absolute scale of cavitation erosion resistance of protective lining materials. 2.

Cavitation erosion resistance of sewer pipe materials

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Construction Materials, 2015
A cavitating high-pressure water-jet provided the means by which a range of materials (plastics, clay and concrete) were eroded. The measured erosion resistance was a proxy for an initially unknown combination of other properties: strength, fracture toughness, impact resistance, hardness, surface roughness, and limiting service temperature.

Cavitation erosion resistance of Ti/TiN multilayer coatings

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2013
Abstract The results of cavitation erosion tests of the Ti/TiN multilayer coatings protecting the X6CrNiTi18-10 steel are presented in this paper. The Ti/TiN multilayer coatings were deposited on the X6CrNiTi18-10 steel surface by means of the cathodic arc evaporation PVD method. The multilayer coatings were deposited as 4, 12 and 40-layer structures
