Investigation of the Disk Cavitator Cavitating Flow Characteristics under Relatively High Cavitation Number

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2010
Simulations on two-phase cavitating flows containing water and vapor, on axisymmetric body with disk cavitator have been implemented through the cavitation model in Fluent 6.2, the flow field around cavitator under different incoming conditions is studied respectively, and analyses to parameters pertinent to cavity including dimension, streamlines ...

Axially symmetric cavitation flow at small cavitation numbers

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 1988
AbstractA method for computing the drag coefficient of a body in an axially symmetric, steady‐state cavitation flow is presented. A ‘vortex ring’ distribution along the wetted body surface and along the cavity interface is assumed. Since the location of the cavitation interface is unknown a priori, an iterative procedure is used, where, for the first ...

Numerical investigation of body and hole effects on the cavitating flow behind a disk cavitator at extremely low cavitation numbers

Applied Mathematical Modelling, 2018
Abstract Supercavitation has been recently proposed as an effective method for drag reduction of underwater vehicles. For this purpose, a cavitator is used to generate a large continuous bubble to cover the vehicle. Extremely low cavitation numbers are required in these applications to provide a sufficiently voluminous cavity.

Optimum fully cavitated hydrofoils at zero cavitation number.

Journal of Aircraft, 1966
Optimum fully cavitated hydrofoils having analytic profiles, which have either minimum drag for a given lift or maximum lift for a given drag, are investigated. The case of zero cavitation number is considered using the conformal mapping procedure of Levi-Civita, a method ideally suited for the optimization process.

An Expression of Inception Cavitation Number

SNAME 23rd American Towing Tank Conference, 1992
The inception cavitation number a 1 and corresponding propeller revolutions RPM are essential parameters for the prediction of the propeller noise. While RPM and a depend on many factors, the thrust loading coefficient Te and pitch ratio P/0 are important.

Numerical study on cavitation in a globe control valve with different numbers of anti-cavitation trims

Journal of Central South University, 2018
Cavitation is a destructive phenomenon in control valves. In order to delay cavitation, a multi-series of perforated cylindrical plates, called trims, are used. Previously, the effects of orifice diameter and different types of trims have been investigated.

Unsteady Lift and Moment on Fully Cavitating Hydrofoils at Zero Cavitation Number

Journal of Ship Research, 1962
Expressions are presented for the lift and moment coefficients of a thin supercavitating foil performing generalized oscillations, in terms of the coefficients of a power series describing the chordwise amplitude distribution. The lift is in general made up of a circulation term, a pure damping term and an added mass term.

Dependence of the drag of a conical axisymmetric cavitation body on the cone angle and the cavitation number

Fluid Dynamics, 1995
Numerical investigations of flow past axisymmetric conical captation bodies have shown that the drag coefficient of the cavitation body, calculated from the maximum cross-sectional area of the cavity (midsection), depends on the cavitation number and the cone angle.
