Cavity optomechanics offers unparalleled sensitivity allowing the control of mechanical resonators at quantum level. The dynamic cavity backaction can be utilized to cool a mechanical resonator to its ground state or amplify its motion to limit-cycle oscillations.

Cavity Solitons

In this chapter we describe the topic of cavity solitons in the framework of the general area of optical pattern formation. We illustrate how one can generate and control them; we compare them with standard spatial solitons and emphasize the special properties of their motion under the action of phase or amplitude gradients in the driving field.

A two-dimensional turbulent wall jet over a shallow cavity is studied numerically. The present paper investigates the wall jet outer layer effect on a shallow cavity flow structure. This layer is an important turbulence source which is added to that of the inner shear layer.

Unusual “cavity-in-cavity” appearance of pulmonary aspergilloma

The classic radiographic appearance of pulmonary aspergilloma is a solid, round, often mobile intracavitary mass. We describe an unusual "cavity-in-cavity" appearance seen on conventional roentgenograms and computed tomography studies in two patients with confirmed pulmonary aspergilloma.

Hæmangiopericytoma, first described by Stout and Murray in 1942, is a rare vascular tumour, related to the glomus tumour, in which the proliferating cell is the pericyte of Zimmerman, situated in the capillary wall outside the reliculin sheath. This position distinguishes the pericyte from endothelial cells in the capillary wall.
