Enhanced optomechanical readout using optical coalescence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present a scheme to strongly enhance the readout sensitivity of the squared displacement of a mobile scatterer placed in a Fabry-P\'erot cavity.

Stafne Bone Cavity

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2015
A 53-year-old male was referred to the department of maxillofacial surgery for the extraction of a destructed wisdom tooth. A preoperative orthopantomogram revealed a well delineated ovoid, radiolucent lesion at the left angle of the mandible. For further lesion characterization, a dental CT scan and MRI were performed.

Observations on the breeding biology of the Luzon flameback Chrysocolaptes haematribon (Wagler 1827) (Piciformes: Picidae) with notes on active nest defence against dollarbird Eurystomus orientalis (Linnaeus 1766) (Coraciiformes: Coraciidae)

open access: yesNatural History Sciences
The breeding biology of the Luzon flameback Chrysocolaptes haematribon is little known. Here we provide insights on the breeding of the species from two nests we located.

Ventilation Rate and Thermal Environment Properties of Double Skin Façade Considering Wind Profile and Direction

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering, 2017
This study analyzes the impact of a windy environment on the ventilation rate and the thermal environment of a double skin façade (DSF). The wind profile was used to change the direction of the wind to the front, back, and side directions.

Field Fluctuations in a One-Dimensional Cavity with a Mobile Wall

open access: yes, 2013
We consider a scalar field in a one-dimensional cavity with a mobile wall. The wall is assumed bounded by a harmonic potential and its mechanical degrees of freedom are treated quantum mechanically. The possible motion of the wall makes the cavity length

Massive sublingual bronchogenic cyst with airway compromise

open access: yesNigerian Journal of Medicine, 2023
Bronchogenic cysts are primary cysts of the mediastinum. In rare situations, it can present in the oral cavity as a swelling of the tongue and the floor of the mouth. Usually, it is not a life-threatening clinical entity.

First description of the breeding biology and behaviour of the near threatened northern sooty woodpecker Mulleripicus funebris (Valenciennes 1826) (Piciformes: Picidae) in Luzon Island, Philippines

open access: yesNatural History Sciences
Although generally regarded as keystone species within forest communities, woodpeckers (Picidae) remain understudied in the Philippines. We describe for the first time the breeding biology and behaviour of the IUCN Near Threatened northern sooty ...

Numerical studies on smoke spread in the cavity of a double-skin façade

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2016
In this paper, influence of two key factors, fire room height and outer pane tilt angle, on smoke spread in the cavity of a double-skin façade (DSF) was studied numerically.

Cavity enhanced storage - preparing for high efficiency quantum memories

open access: yes, 2013
Cavity assisted quantum memory storage has been proposed [PRA 82, 022310 (2010), PRA 82, 022311 (2010)] for creating efficient (close to unity) quantum memories using weakly absorbing materials.

Moderate-coherence sensing with optical cavities: ultra-high accuracy meets ultra-high measurement bandwidth and range

open access: yesCommunications Engineering
Interferometric sensors, renowned for their exceptional accuracy, leverage the wave properties of coherent electromagnetic radiation. The periodicity of the measurement signal often critically limits the measurement range of sensors utilizing ...
