Exercise MR of Skeletal Muscles, the Heart, and the Brain
Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging (MRI) is routinely used to evaluate organ morphology and pathology in the human body at rest or in combination with pharmacological stress as an exercise surrogate. With MR during actual physical exercise, we can assess functional characteristics of tissues and organs under real‐life stress conditions.

Creation of Transcatheter Aortopulmonary and Cavopulmonary Shunts Using Magnetic Catheters: Feasibility Study in Swine [PDF]
Surgical shunts are the basic form of palliation for many types of congenital heart disease. The Glenn shunt (superior cavopulmonary connection) and central shunt (aortopulmonary connection) represent surgical interventions that could potentially be ...

Graphical abstract Abstract Factors such as physical activity (PA), sedentary time, screen time, and sleep affect the holistic health of children with congenital heart disease (CHD). Despite this, their proximity to reaching the Canadian 24‐hour movement guidelines is unknown.

Takedown of cavopulmonary shunt at biventricular repair
With advances in valve repair and ventricular recruitment strategies, patients initially palliated with single ventricle physiology have been increasingly brought to biventricular circulation.

Abstract An 8‐h‐old Arabian foal was presented for evaluation of progressive weakness since birth. The foal presented laterally recumbent with pale and muddy mucous membranes, a grade III/VI left basilar murmur, and an irregularly, irregular rhythm. Transthoracic echocardiogram along with an electrocardiogram (EKG) was performed.

Unilateral Glenn circulation in rats phenocopies clinical features of single ventricle pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs). Post‐Glenn PAVMs exhibit early and progressive intrapulmonary shunting, mildly impaired oxygenation, and normal ventilation.

Delayed retrieval of embolized ductal stent: A surgical challenge
Retrieval of embolized ductal stents from the pulmonary or systemic circulation can be challenging. Most children benefit from surgical shunts in such scenarios.

Abstract Preliminary evidence suggests perturbations of the kynurenine pathway (KP) of tryptophan metabolism in infants with single ventricle heart disease (SVHD). In 72 infants with SVHD undergoing stage 2 palliation (S2P) and 41 controls, we quantified serum KP metabolite concentrations via tandem mass spectroscopy pre‐S2P and post‐S2P at 2, 24, and ...
