The ISOTILT software for discovering cooperative rigid-unit rotations in networks of interconnected rigid units. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Appl Crystallogr, 2021
ISOTILT is a user‐friendly web‐based software package for discovering the cooperative rigid‐unit modes in materials whose structures contain interconnected networks of rigid units.A user‐friendly web‐based software tool called `ISOTILT' is introduced for detecting cooperative rigid‐unit modes (RUMs) in networks of interconnected rigid units (e.g ...

Surface-Sensitive Fractioning of Flowing Colloidal Suspensions Sedimented at a Photochemically Active Wall. [PDF]

open access: yesSmall
A straightforward technique for fractionating sedimented, same‐sized colloidal particles based on small differences in their surface properties is described. This microfluidic technology method exploits the velocity differentials within a shear‐flow via inducing a phoretic lift above the bottom porous polymer interface that is capable of light‐induced ...

On Colour, Category Effects, and Alzheimer's Disease: A Critical Review of Studies and Further Longitudinal Evidence. [PDF]

open access: yesBehav Neurol, 2015
The role of colour in object recognition is controversial; in this study, a critical review of previous studies, as well as a longitudinal study, was conducted. We examined whether colour benefits the ability of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients and normal controls (NC) when naming items differing in colour diagnosticity: living things (LT) versus ...

Versatile Microfluidics Separation of Colloids by Combining External Flow with Light‐Induced Chemical Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 35, Issue 25, June 22, 2023., 2023
A versatile method for separating colloids distinguished only by slight differences in their surface morphology (e.g., roughness, porosity, or polymer), is reported. It relies on combining the drift by the pressure‐driven shear flow of a photosensitive surfactant solution with a surface‐properties‐dependent positioning of the particles within the shear

How to Make a Surface Act as a Micropump

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 9, Issue 12, April 22, 2022., 2022
It is shown that any surface capable to absorb a large amount of photosensitive surfactant can act as a micropump. The mechanism is based on the generation of a continuous local light‐driven diffusioosmotic flow near the surface, where the strength and direction can be triggered by changing the intensity or wavelength of incoming light.

Tuning the Volume Phase Transition Temperature of Microgels by Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 32, Issue 2, January 10, 2022., 2022
A mechanism of light‐triggered reversible switching of the volume phase transition temperature (VPTT) of photo‐sensitive microgels consisting of poly‐N‐isopropyl acrylamide (PNIPAM) and acrylic acid (AAc) of different contents ranging between 1 and 20 mol% is uncovered. VPTT point is reversibly switched by light with a maximal temperature difference of

Glacial connectivity and current population fragmentation in sky islands explain the contemporary distribution of genomic variation in two narrow‐endemic montane grasshoppers from a biodiversity hotspot

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 27, Issue 9, Page 1619-1633, September 2021., 2021
Abstract Aim Cold‐adapted biotas from mid‐latitudes often show small population sizes, harbour low levels of local genetic diversity and are highly vulnerable to extinction due to ongoing climate warming and the progressive shrinking of montane and alpine ecosystems.

Formation of Aluminum‐Doped Zinc Oxide Nanocrystals via the Benzylamine Route at Low Reaction Kinetics

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 43, Issue 5, Page 797-803, May 2020., 2020
The performance of cost‐effective functional thin films using aluminum‐doped zinc oxide (AZO) nanocrystals depends on the adjustability of the particle properties during synthesis. A time‐resolved access for measuring the nanoscale particle properties was developed at low process speeds and used to investigate the effects of essential process ...
