AbstractCone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a three‐dimensional imaging modality which can aid endodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. While there are guidelines available describing the indications, there are divergent philosophies on when this technology should be applied in clinical practice.

Early Radiation Therapy Response Assessment Using Multi‐Scale Photoacoustic Imaging
Tomographic and mesoscopic photoacoustics capture intratumoural features of radioresistance and response. ABSTRACT There is a critical unmet clinical need to identify biomarkers that predict and detect radiation therapy (RT) response in cancer. Using the unique capabilities of multi‐scale photoacoustic imaging (PAI) to depict tumor oxygenation and ...

Er:YAG laser, piezosurgery, and surgical drill for bone decortication during orthodontic mini-implant insertion: primary stability analysis-an animal study [PDF]
It is important to identify factors that affect primary stability of orthodontic mini-implants because it determines the success of treatment. We assessed mini-implant primary stability (initial mechanical engagement with the bone) placed in pig jaws. We

Automated multimodal volume registration based on supervised 3D anatomical landmark detection [PDF]
We propose a new method for automatic 3D multimodal registration based on anatomical landmark detection. Landmark detectors are learned independantly in the two imaging modalities using Extremely Randomized Trees and multi-resolution voxel windows.

CBCT or not CBCT: That is the Question
Root fractures comprise approximately 0.5–7% of all traumatic injuries to the permanent dentition and frequently are diagnosed after trauma to the face and mouth. Horizontal fractures are most frequent in the middle third of the root and rare in the apical third, it occurs more often in the maxillary central incisors of male patients.

Management of post‐implant fibrous dysplasia in the maxilla: A case study
Abstract Background Fibrous dysplasia is generally rare, and even rarer in older adults. Special care is needed when altering the alveolar bone in these cases, especially if an implant is involved. This case study highlights such a scenario. Methods This case study details the experience of a 63‐year‐old African American female who presented with a ...

Artefacts in CBCT: a review [PDF]
Artefacts are common in today's cone beam CT (CBCT). They are induced by discrepancies between the mathematical modelling and the actual physical imaging process. Since artefacts may interfere with the diagnostic process performed on CBCT data sets, every user should be aware of their presence.

Crestal approach for repair of oroantral bone defects and subsequent implant placement
Abstract Background Oroantral communication (OAC) can occur after a dental extraction. Occasionally, bony defects may persist despite successful soft tissue closure of the OAC. The absence of bone in these areas poses challenges for dental implant placement.

Guided transpositional bone blocks in esthetic zone: Surgical technique and case report
Abstract Background The ultimate objective of implant dentistry is to position the implant in a three‐dimensional, prosthetic‐driven location. This case highlights a guided approach for harvesting and positioning an autogenous bone block to restore a horizontal bone defect in the anterior maxilla.

CBCT evaluation and surgical management of an unusual cystic lesion: A case report
This is a case of swelling originating from dens invaginatus associated with lateral incisor, misdiagnosed as a globulomaxillary cyst. The initial diagnosis of globulomaxillary cyst was made solely from radiographs by observing a reverse pear-shaped ...
