Self‐Affine Scaling of Earth's Islands

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract Earth's relief is approximately self‐affine, meaning a zoom‐in on a small region looks statistically similar to a large region upon rescaling. Fractional Brownian surfaces give an idealized self‐affine model of Earth's relief with one parameter, the Hurst exponent H $H$, characterizing the roughness of the surface.

Investigating the influence of climate and volcanic surface aging on fluvial erosion: A case study of Réunion Island, Indian Ocean

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 4, April 2026.
Réunion Island is marked by gradients in both precipitation and surface age. Analyzing correlations between metrics related to precipitation, age, and drainage basin morphology, we demonstrate how volcanic surface age impacts the effects of average precipitation and precipitation variability on fluvial erosion.

A design framework to create Artificial Intelligence Coaches

open access: yesInternational Journal of Evidence Based Coaching and Mentoring, 2020
There is on going debate about the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on humanity. The application of AI in the helping professions is an active research area, but not in organisational coaching.

From Points to Planes: A Workflow for Converting Three‐Dimensional Point Cloud Data Into Discrete Fracture Network Flow and Transport Models

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract We present the Point cLoud Algorithm for NEtwork Extraction of Discrete Fracture Networks (PLANE‐DFN), a point cloud–based algorithm for automatic fracture network extraction designed to support discrete fracture network (DFN) modeling workflows. PLANE‐DFN segments three‐dimensional fracture planes from raw point cloud data using RANdom SAmple

Accommodating the Analysis Model in Multiple Imputation for the Weibull Mixture Cure Model: Performance Under Penalized Likelihood

open access: yesStatistics in Medicine, Volume 45, Issue 6-7, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction In analysis of time‐to‐event outcomes, a mixture cure (MC) model is preferred over a standard survival model when the sample includes individuals who will never experience the event of interest. Motivated by a cohort study of breast cancer patients with incomplete biomarkers, we develop multiple imputation (MI) methods assuming a ...

Multi-Carrier Waveform Design for Directional Modulation Under Peak to Average Power Ratio Constraint

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Multi-carrier-based waveform design for directional modulation (DM) is studied, where simultaneous data transmission over multiple frequencies can be achieved, with given phase distribution at the main lobe and as random as possible over sidelobe regions

Effects of Dissolution Regimes on Flow Channelization and Solute Transport in 3D Fracture Networks: Insights From Graph‐Based Reactive Transport Modeling

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract We investigate how mineral dissolution reshapes flow pathways and solute transport in three‐dimensional discrete fracture networks using a computationally efficient graph‐based reactive transport model. The DFNs are inspired by field‐site observations of fractured carbonate and represent realistic connectivity and structural heterogeneity ...

Homesick L\'evy walk: A mobility model having Ichi-go Ichi-e and scale-free properties of human encounters

open access: yes, 2014
In recent years, mobility models have been reconsidered based on findings by analyzing some big datasets collected by GPS sensors, cellphone call records, and Geotagging.

Construction‐Free Polar Coding For Practical Entropy Coding Tasks

open access: yesIET Communications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
A novel construction‐free polar coding technique is proposed for practical data compression applications. ABSTRACT This paper explores the practical application of source polar codes to entropy coding tasks in modern transform coding pipelines. Transform coding remains the predominant and rapidly evolving framework for compressing complex real‐world ...
