Toxicity of CdTe Quantum Dots in Bacterial Strains

Contradictory results on quantum dot cytotoxicity exist for many types of biological systems, especially microorganisms. In this study, we compare the cytotoxicity of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) to four very different environmental bacterial strains, giving quantitative models of the growth curves for exposed organisms.

Mechanism of Antimicrobial Activity of CdTe Quantum Dots

The antimicrobial activity and mechanism of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) against Escherichia coli were investigated in this report. Colony-forming capability assay and atomic force microscopy (AFM) images show that the QDs can effectively kill the bacteria in a concentration-dependent manner.

The IR reflection spectra of structures that consist of alternating layers of CdTe quantum dots and ZnTe barriers and are grown on ZnTe and CdTe/ZnTe buffer layers on GaAs(001) substrates are studied. The spectra are processed using dispersion analysis, and the parameters of the oscillators are determined.

Doped CdTe-based quantum dots

Colloidal semiconductor CdTe-based quantum dots are investigated. An ab initio computer design of quantum dots based on nanoparticles of CdTe and CdTe doped with atoms of transition elements (Co, Mn) is executed. Partial densities of the electron states of the investigated quantum dots are calculated.
