SMOOTH muscle tumors constitute approximately 1% of all gastrointestinal neoplasms. To date, 40 cases of leiomyoma and leiomyosarcoma of the colon have been described.1-6It has been suggested that such tumors in the young have a different growth rate, aggressiveness, biologic potential, and radiosensitivity than those seen in adults. There is no report

The choice of the best reconstruction technique following resection of either the stomach or the rectum remains a matter of discussion. While there is no problem in reconnecting intestinal segments, which do not serve as a reservoir, there are many different operation techniques to replace the stomach and rectum, producing significantly different ...

Abstract 1. 1. Reported herein is a case of volvulus of the cecum in a ninety year old man treated by simple detorsion without fixation, with good results. 2. 2. Volvulus of the cecum should be considered in acute conditions of the abdomen, especially with pain in the right lower side, localized distention with or without nausea and vomiting.

Abstract 1. 1. A case of volvulus of the cecum with associated perforation is presented. 2. 2. Colonic obstruction secondary to an intussuscepting, polypoid carcinoma was believed to be of etiologic significance in this patient. 3. 3. The difficulties of proper early diagnosis are discussed, and the salient features to be sought in a ...

Ultrasound can define masses in the cecum and the cecal bed. In the patient with a prior resection of adenocarcinoma of the cecum, the sonogram fulfills a primary role in the detection of large and ill-defined recurrences not amenable to detection by barium enema because of a right colectomy.

CECAL diverticulitis is a definite yet relatively infrequent clinical entity. In the differential diagnosis of pain in the right lower quadrant, the possibility of diverticulitis of the cecum is not often considered. From 1912, when the first case of diverticulitis of the cecum appeared to have been reported, to April of 1950, there had been only 118 ...

Abstract A case of adenoacanthoma of the cecum is presented. Such cases are rare. The possibility that this case was related to the presence of a cecal fistula following cecostomy is suggested. A similar case is presented by Plenge. These cases may, perhaps, be considered as following metaplasia associated with long-standing chronic inflammation.
