Breeding Strategy for the Cedrela Genus in Argentina

Three species from the Yungas (Cedrela balansae, C. angustifolia, C. saltensis) and one from the Alto Parana Rainforest (C. fissilis) represent the genus in Argentina. In this chapter, we present the state-of-the-art in their domestication, including afforestation experiences in block and in enrichment strips.

Triterpenes from Cedrela odorata

Abstract From the ethanolic extract of the heartwood of Cedrela odorata were isolated gedunin, 3β- O -β- d -glucopyranosyl-24-methyllenecholesterol, oleanonic acid, sitosterol, n -octacosanol and a new triterpene threo -23,24,25-trihydroxytirucall-7-en-3-one. Structural determinations of these compounds were made by spectrometric data.

Chemical investigation of Cedrela toona

Abstract Two varieties of Cedrela toona Roxb. are available in West Bengal and the seeds of one variety produces cedrelone, 1,2-dihydrocedrelone, bergapten and β-sitosterol. Occurrence of 1,2-dihydrocedrelone, a new tetranortriterpenoid, provides further interesting evidence of the chemotaxonomic feature of Meliaceae .

Triterpenoids from Cedrela sinensis

Abstract Twenty-three new triterpenoids ( 1–23 ), all having an apotirucallane skeleton, were isolated from the seeds, leaves, and stems of Cedrela sinensis (Meliaceae). Their structures were determined by 2D NMR experiments, X-ray crystallographic analysis, and chemical methods.

Limonoids from the stem bark of Cedrela odorata

Four nomilin/obacunol derivatives and a swietenolide derivative, together with seven known limonoids, were isolated from stem bark of Cedrela odorata and their structures established by spectroscopic methods. Antifeedant activity of the isolated compounds was also tested.

Two new compounds, cedrellin (1) and 2,6,10,15-phytatetraene-14-ol (2), together with five known compounds, 7 alpha-obacunyl acetate, 6-acetoxyobacunol acetate, 7 alpha-acetoxydihydronomilin, 2,6,10-phytatriene-1,14,15-triol and phytol were isolated from leaves of Cedrela sinensis.
