Serious Bacterial Infections in Hospitalized Neonates in Eastern Ethiopia: Investigating the Emerging Pathogen Pantoea dispersa Compared With Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Serious bacterial infections (SBIs) are major contributors to neonatal morbidity and mortality in low‐income countries. We describe the aetiology and risk factors for neonatal bacteraemia and in‐hospital mortality in eastern Ethiopia, focusing on Pantoea dispersa, a rarely studied pathogen, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Bilateral simultaneous cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation in an adult female chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) inducing monovision

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 457-464, March 2025.
Abstract Background Cataract is the major cause of visual impairment in humans. Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is the standard technique for cataract treatment with a high success rate. In a few cases, the surgical cataract procedure and lens implantation have been applied in non‐human primates.

Use of the PCR-DGGE Method for the Analysis of the Bacterial Community Structure in Soil Treated With the Cephalosporin Antibiotic Cefuroxime and/or Inoculated With a Multidrug-Resistant Pseudomonas putida Strain MC1

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
The widespread use of cefuroxime (XM) has resulted in the increase in its concentration in hospital and domestic wastewaters. Due to the limited removal of antibiotics and antibiotic-resistant genes in conventional systems, the drugs enter the surface ...

Epicutaneous and Drug Provocation Testing in Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions: A 20‐Year Single‐Centre Experience

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 94, Issue 6, Page 677-688, June 2026.
This study provides reassuring evidence in favour of early skin testing in patients with SCARs, argues against the necessity of a 6‐month delay, and underscores the pivotal role of oral provocation tests in the safe reintroduction of essential therapies. ABSTRACT Background Identifying and discontinuing the offending drug(s) in severe cutaneous adverse
