Primary Lymphoepithelioma‐Like Carcinoma of the Conjunctiva Metastatic to Regional Lymph Nodes and Parotid Gland in a Mexican Patient

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmological Medicine, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Lymphoepithelioma‐like carcinoma (LELC) of the conjunctiva is a rare malignancy in the ocular adnexa. There are no prospective data regarding treatment methods. From Neurotransmission to Retinal Pathophysiology: Unraveling the Role of GABA Receptors in Retinal Disease Progression. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Neurochem
GABA receptors, widely expressed in the retina, play a key role in lateral inhibition and synaptic regulation. Emerging evidence links their dysregulation to retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, and age‐related macular degeneration.

Suitability of phytoliths as a quantitative process tracer for soil erosion studies

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 46, Issue 9, Page 1797-1808, July 2021., 2021
In this sediment fingerprinting pilot study, the characteristics, composition, and concentrations of phytoliths proved to discriminate sediment sources in NE Spain sufficiently. Validation with artificial sink samples provided satisfying results for the small sample size of this pilot study.

How to Tailor My Process‐Based Hydrological Model? Dynamic Identifiability Analysis of Flexible Model Structures

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 56, Issue 8, August 2020., 2020
Abstract In the field of hydrological modeling, many alternative representations of natural processes exist. Choosing specific process formulations when building a hydrological model is therefore associated with a high degree of ambiguity and subjectivity.

Novel mutations in the PITX2 gene in Pakistani and Mexican families with Axenfeld‐Rieger syndrome

open access: yesMolecular Genetics &Genomic Medicine, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2020., 2020
The authors report clinical data on patients presenting with Axenfeld‐Rieger syndrome (ARS) from three families. Molecular genetic studies identified novel heterozygous sequence variants in the PITX2 gene that are the likely causes of the disease in the respective families.

Interplay between Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Amyloidosis in the Anterior Segment of the Eye; Its Pathological Implications

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
There are different pathologies associated with amyloidogenic processes caused by the increase of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the overactivation of inflammatory responses. These alterations are present in different regions of the anterior segment of the eye, and they have been associated with the development and progression of ocular pathologies,
