본 연구는 고려중기에 새롭게 등장한 童子文 청자를 종합적으로 정리하고, 현전하는 유물의 기종 및 문양의 분석을 통해 동자문 청자의 성격 및 의의를 규명하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 특히 도상의 분석을 통해 당시 활발하게 유입되고 있었던 중국의 문물, 특히 회화 유입에 따른 영향이 있었음을 밝히고자 한다. 동자문은 어린 아이의 형상을 나타낸 장식 문양을 지칭하며 12세기 경 고려청자에 시문되기 시작하여 14세기까지도 지속된다.
