Assessment of syndecan-4 expression in the hearts of Trypanosoma cruzi-infected mice and human subjects with chronic Chagas disease cardiomyopathy

open access: yesSurgical and Experimental Pathology, 2018
Background Chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy (CCC) is characterized by the presence of a multifocal inflammatory response and myocardial damage, leading to fibrosis, arrhythmias and ventricular dysfunction.

Evolutionary dynamics of imatinib-treated leukemic cells by stochastic approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The evolutionary dynamics of a system of cancerous cells in a model of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is investigated by a statistical approach. Cancer progression is explored by applying a Monte Carlo method to simulate the stochastic behavior of cell reproduction and death in a population of blood cells which can experience genetic mutations.

Drug-tolerant persister cancer cells are vulnerable to GPX4 inhibition. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Acquired drug resistance prevents cancer therapies from achieving stable and complete responses. Emerging evidence implicates a key role for non-mutational drug resistance mechanisms underlying the survival of residual cancer 'persister' cells.

Molecular insights into the modulation of the 5HT2A receptor by serotonin, psilocin, and the G protein subunit Gqα

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 6, Page 876-891, March 2025.
We explore 5HT2A receptor activation, a key target for psychedelic drugs, using molecular dynamics simulations. Without Gqα, the active receptor collapses to an inactive conformation, underscoring the G‐protein's role. Discovery of an intermediate “partially‐open” state and the higher affinity of ligands to the orthosteric binding site provides ...

Comparative analysis and process optimization for manufacturing CAR-T using the PiggyBac system derived from cryopreserved versus fresh PBMCs

open access: yesScientific Reports
Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) therapy holds promise for cancer treatment but faces challenges with using fresh patient cells, including manufacturing failures and logistical hurdles.

Evaluation of Safety and Immunogenicity of a Recombinant Receptor-Binding Domain (RBD)-Tetanus Toxoid (TT) Conjugated SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (PastoCovac) in Recipients of Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Compared to the Healthy Controls; A Prospective, Open-Label Clinical Trial

open access: yesVaccines, 2023
Background: The urgent need for prompt SARS-CoV-2 immunization of hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients in an endemic area raises many challenges regarding selecting a vaccine platform appropriate for HSCT recipients being economical for ...

The Impact of Competition Between Cancer Cells and Healthy Cells on Optimal Drug Delivery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cell competition is recognized to be instrumental to the dynamics and structure of the tumor-host interface in invasive cancers. In mild competition scenarios, the healthy tissue and cancer cells can coexist. When the competition is aggressive, competitive cells, the so called super-competitors, expand by killing other cells.

Engineered T cell therapies [PDF]

open access: yesExpert Reviews in Molecular Medicine, 2015
Alongside advancements in gene therapy for inherited immune disorders, the need for effective alternative therapeutic options for other conditions has resulted in an expansion in the field of research for T cell gene therapy. T cells are easily obtained and can be induced to divide robustly ex vivo, a characteristic that allows them to be highly ...

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Entropy Production in a Cell and Reversal of Entropy Flow as an Anticancer Therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The entropy production rate of cancer cell is always higher than healthy cell under the case of no external field applied. Different entropy production between two kinds of cells determines the direction of entropy flow among cells. The entropy flow is the carrier of information flow. The entropy flow from cancer to healthy cell takes along the harmful
