Characterization of therapeutic antibodies targeting lymphatic and vascular resistance factor for the treatment of hypervascularized and highly metastatic cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LVRF (lymphatic and vascular resistance factor) is a VEGFA splice variant upregulated in response to anti‐angiogenic therapy that fosters tumor adaptation through enhanced vascularization, lymphangiogenesis, and metastatic dissemination. Targeting LVRF with fully human neutralizing antibodies disrupts these processes and limits resistant tumor growth ...

Reprogramming tumor cells with LCOR mRNA nanotherapy to enhance immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LCOR (Ligand‐dependent corepressor) mRNA encapsulated in polymeric nanoparticles restores LCOR activity in tumor cells, constraining aggressive tumor cell states and increasing tumor immunogenicity. This reprogramming makes tumor cells more vulnerable to T‐cell attack and enhances their response to immune‐checkpoint immunotherapy.

Engineering IL‐4 resistant proinflammatory human myeloid cells for cancer immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a scalable workflow to generate proinflammatory human myeloid cells. CRISPR/Cas9‐edited CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells were expanded and differentiated with M‐CSF. Deletion of STAT6 or STAT6/NFKB1 enhanced macrophage proinflammatory gene expression and cytokine secretion in the presence of IL‐4 while maintaining antibody ...

Illuminating developmental biology with cellular optogenetics [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Biotechnology, 2018
In developmental biology, localization is everything. The same stimulus — cell signaling event or expression of a gene — can have dramatically different effects depending on the time, spatial position, and cell types in which it is applied. Yet the field

Biology of cancer; from cellular and molecular mechanisms to developmental processes and adaptation

Seminars in Cancer Biology, 2022
Cancer research has been largely focused on the cellular and molecular levels of investigation. Recent data show that not only the cell but also the extracellular matrix plays a major role in the progression of malignancy. In this way, the cells and the extracellular matrix create a specific local microenvironment that supports malignant development ...

Gravitational Studies in Cellular and Developmental Biology

Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science, 1992
The paucity of data on the role of gravity in cellular and developmental biology has been examined, and a hypothesis has been generated that unifies potential gravity sensitivity in both plant and animal systems. This hypothesis considers the macromolecular order and functional importance of the extracellular matrix compartment, the intracellular ...

The cellular and developmental biology of medulloblastoma: Current perspectives on experimental therapeutics [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Biology and Therapy, 2010
Dysregulation of various signaling pathways that govern cerebellar development with respect to cell proliferation, growth arrest, apoptosis and differentiation has been postulated to contribute to medulloblastoma tumourigenesis. This review will highlight the unique nature of cerebellar development in terms of its derivation from two germinal matrices ...

Rudolf Weber (1922–2015): a driving force in the transition of developmental biology into a molecular and cellular science [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopment Genes and Evolution, 2016
Prof. Dr. Rudolf Heinrich Weber passed away on December 23, 2015, at the high age of 93 years. Succeeding Fritz Baltzer and Fritz Erich Lehmann, he became the third in a line of outstanding developmental biologists at the University of Bern, Switzerland.

Partial differential equations for self-organization in cellular and developmental biology [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinearity, 2008
Understanding the mechanisms governing and regulating the emergence of structure and heterogeneity within cellular systems, such as the developing embryo, represents a multiscale challenge typifying current integrative biology research, namely, explaining the macroscale behaviour of a system from microscale dynamics.

Molecular, cellular and developmental biology of urothelium as a basis of bladder regeneration

Differentiation, 2005
Urinary bladder malfunction and disorders are caused by congenital diseases, trauma, inflammation, radiation, and nerve injuries. Loss of normal bladder function results in urinary tract infection, incontinence, renal failure, and end-stage renal dysfunction. In severe cases, bladder augmentation is required using segments of the gastrointestinal tract.
