Histochemical evaluation of induction of somatic embryogenesis in Passiflora edulis Sims (Passifloraceae)

open access: yes, 2015
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)The aim of this study was to describe the accumulation of reserves during the somatic embryogenesis process in Passiflora edulis Sims FB-300, obtained from mature zygotic embryos, using ...

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.

Mortality, developmental biology and cellular immunity in achroia grisella (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) larvae exposed to azadirachtin

open access: yes, 2022
Azadirachtin, obtained from neem trees, can be a robust alternative to synthetic pesticides for the control of agricultural pests with no resistance problems. Azadirachtin-induced influences on mortality, life history traits and cellular immunity indicators of the lesser wax moth Achroia grisella (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) were ...

The ubiquitin system in normal and infected germinal center B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The ubiquitin system plays a central role in germinal center (GC) B cells, influencing differentiation to long‐lived memory B cells. Oncogenic gammaherpesviruses gain access to memory B cells by establishing latency in GC B cells. Mapping ubiquitin mechanisms in normal and infected GC B cells will define specific molecular circuits in B cells germane ...

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Single-Cell Omics in Animal Reproductive Biology: A Cellular and Molecular Atlas Across Developmental Stages

open access: yesInsights in Animal Science
The cutting-edge technologies of single-cell omics have revolutionized the study of animal reproduction, enabling the visualization of cellular and molecular domains in organisms during various growth stages. This review presents a conceptual framework grounded in the latest developments from single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), ATAC sequencing ...

Lysyl oxidase (LOX)‐mediated remodeling of the extracellular matrix

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The lysyl oxidase (LOX) family of enzymes drives extracellular matrix remodeling by oxidizing collagen, elastin, and fibronectin, promoting covalent cross‐link formation. This activity regulates tissue architecture and mechanical properties, while its dysregulation contributes to fibrosis, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, connective tissue disorders ...

Genetic perspectives on the ascidian central nervous system

open access: yesInvertebrate Survival Journal, 2009
In 2002, date of publication of the Ciona intestinalis genome, ascidians entered the post-genomic era. This tool had a fundamental role and has become the starting point for a series of new functional and genomic studies.

Mapping the cellular basis of species differences in oxytocin and dopamine receptor expression in the vole nucleus accumbens

open access: yesScientific Reports
Oxytocin (Oxtr) and dopamine (Drd1, Drd2) receptors provide a canonical example for how differences in neuromodulatory receptors drive individual and species-level behavioral variation. These systems exhibit striking and functionally relevant differences
