Sand automata as cellular automata

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 2009
AbstractIn this paper, we exhibit a strong relation between the sand automata configuration space and the cellular automata configuration space. This relation induces a compact topology for sand automata, and a new context in which sand automata are homeomorphic to cellular automata acting on a specific subshift.

Cellular automata as convolutional neural networks [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2018
Deep-learning techniques have recently demonstrated broad success in predicting complex dynamical systems ranging from turbulence to human speech, motivating broader questions about how neural networks encode and represent dynamical rules.

Strictly Temporally Periodic Points in Cellular Automata [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2012
We study the set of strictly periodic points in surjective cellular automata, i.e., the set of those configurations which are temporally periodic for a given automaton but they not spatially periodic.

Bulking II: Classifications of Cellular Automata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper is the second part of a series of two papers dealing with bulking: a way to define quasi-order on cellular automata by comparing space-time diagrams up to rescaling.

Subsystem symmetries, quantum cellular automata, and computational phases of quantum matter [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum, 2018
Quantum phases of matter are resources for notions of quantum computation. In this work, we establish a new link between concepts of quantum information theory and condensed matter physics by presenting a unified understanding of symmetry-protected ...

Blackouts Mechanism Simulation Model of Power System Based on Heterogeneous Cellular Automata

open access: yesZhongguo dianli, 2019
In order to study the mechanism of large blackouts of interconnected power system, a heterogeneous cellular automata model is proposed and used to simulate interconnected power system.

A transformation sequencing approach to pseudorandom number generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper presents a new approach to designing pseudorandom number generators based on cellular automata. Current cellular automata designs either focus on i) ensuring desirable sequence properties such as maximum length period, balanced distribution ...

Examining the sensitivity of spatial scale in cellular automata Markov chain simulation of land use change

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geographical Information Science, 2019
Understanding the spatial scale sensitivity of cellular automata is crucial for improving the accuracy of land use change simulation. We propose a framework based on a response surface method to comprehensively explore spatial scale sensitivity of the ...
