Intrinsically Universal Cellular Automata [PDF]
This talk advocates intrinsic universality as a notion to identify simple cellular automata with complex computational behavior. After an historical introduction and proper definitions of intrinsic universality, which is discussed with respect to Turing ...

Randomized Cellular Automata [PDF]
We define and study a few properties of a class of random automata networks. While regular finite one-dimensional cellular automata are defined on periodic lattices, these automata networks, called randomized cellular automata, are defined on random directed graphs with constant out-degrees and evolve according to cellular automaton rules.

Early Warning Signals for Critical Transitions in Sandpile Cellular Automata
The sandpile cellular automata, despite the simplicity of their basic rules, are adequate mathematical models of real-world systems, primarily open nonlinear systems capable to self-organize into the critical state.

Expressiveness of Elementary Cellular Automata [PDF]
We investigate expressiveness, a parameter of one-dimensional cellular automata, in the context of simulated biological systems. The development of elementary cellular automata is interpreted in terms of biological systems, and biologically inspired parameters for biodiversity are applied to the configurations of cellular automata.

Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

New Cellular Automata associated with the Schroedinger Discrete Spectral Problem [PDF]
New Cellular Automata associated with the Schroedinger discrete spectral problem are derived. These Cellular Automata possess an infinite (countable) set of constants of motion.

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (

On the Dynamical Behavior of Cellular Automata on Finite Groups
During the last few decades, significant efforts have been devoted to analyze the dynamical behavior of cellular automata (CAs) on cyclic groups, their Cartesian power (referred to as linear cellular automata), and on general abelian groups (referred to ...

Asynchronous adaptive time step in quantitative cellular automata modeling
Background The behaviors of cells in metazoans are context dependent, thus large-scale multi-cellular modeling is often necessary, for which cellular automata are natural candidates.
