Computational Aspects of Cellular Automata on Countable Sofic Shifts

open access: closedInternational Symposium on Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science, 2012
We investigate the computational properties of cellular automata on countable (equivalently, zero entropy) sofic shifts with an emphasis on nilpotency, periodicity, and asymptotic behavior. As a tool for proving decidability results, we prove the Starfleet Lemma, which is of independent interest.

Computational Aspects of Asynchronous Cellular Automata

open access: closedInternational Conference on Developments in Language Theory, 2011
Cellular Automata (CA) are a computational model widely used in many scientific fields. A CA consists of identical finite automata arranged over a regular lattice (i.e. every configuration of a CA is an element of A ℤ where A is a finite set of local states).

Cold dynamics in cellular automata: a tutorial

Natural Computing, 2022
This tutorial is about cellular automata that exhibit cold dynamics. By this we mean zero Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy, stabilization of all orbits, trivial asymptotic dynamics, or similar properties. These are essentially transient and irreversible dynamics,

Analyzing the Dynamics and Structure of a Pandemic by Coupling Cellular Automata with an Algorithm for Neighborhood Generating

2025 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Artificial Life and Cooperative Intelligent Systems Companion (ALIFE-CIS Companion)
Due to the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many studies have been conducted using a variety of methods to analyze the spread of the disease and the impact of various interventions.

Universality Frontier for Asynchronous Cellular Automata

International Symposium on Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science
In this work, we investigate the computational aspects of asynchronous cellular automata (ACAs), a modification of cellular automata in which cells update independently, following an asynchronous schedule.

Modeling and Implementation of Reversible Logic Gates Using QCA

European Tangible Interaction Studio
The main obstacles to the development of future computational circuits are shrinking transistor sizes and power dissipation. Moore's law cannot be applied to duplicate transistor density, at least not until the transistor size reaches the atomic scale ...
