Hydrophilic Particles Exit While Hydrophobic Particles Persist Following In Vivo Biodegradation of Nanoparticle‐Laden Polymeric Devices

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Functionalizing biomedical implants with nanoparticle contrast agents introduces imaging capabilities to devices, improving patient care by avoiding inherent complications. However, nanoparticle surface chemistry optimized for device manufacturing may not lead to efficient nanoparticle clearance from tissues.

Severe nonbacterial preseptal cellulitis from adenovirus detected via pooled meta‐genomic testing

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2020
Preseptal cellulitis is a serious diagnosis that can progress to postseptal cellulitis leading to grave consequences. Clinically, viral and bacterial cellulitis can be indistinguishable from each other. Using rapid DNA/RNA sequencing can be helpful.

Bacterial Etiology and Risk Factors Associated with Cellulitis and Purulent Skin Abscesses in Military Trainees. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Military trainees are at high risk for skin and soft-tissue infections (SSTIs). Although Staphylococcus aureus is associated with purulent SSTI, it is unclear to what degree this pathogen causes nonpurulent cellulitis.

Efficacy and Safety of Subcutaneous Abatacept Plus Standard Treatment for Active Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy: Phase 3 Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Our objective was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous (SC) abatacept and standard of care (SOC) for the treatment of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) over 52 weeks. Methods In this randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled phase III trial, patients with treatment‐refractory IIM received SC abatacept (at 125 mg weekly)

Efficacy, Safety, Pharmacokinetics, and Immunogenicity of ABBV‐154 in Adults With Glucocorticoid‐Dependent Polymyalgia Rheumatica: A Phase 2, Randomized, Double‐Blind, Placebo‐Controlled Trial

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective An unmet need exists for glucocorticoid‐sparing treatments for patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). The antibody‐drug conjugate ABBV‐154 comprises adalimumab conjugated to a glucocorticoid receptor modulator. We evaluated ABBV‐154 versus placebo in patients with glucocorticoid‐dependent PMR.

Palpebral cellulitis

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 1978
Patients with palpebral cellulitis may turn in the first place to a skin clinic. The clinical picture and the course of disease are illustrated here by four case histories. The importance of differentiating between collateral orbital edema, palpebral cellulitis and orbital cellulitis is stressed.

Factors influencing physicians’ antimicrobial prescribing decisions: A systematic review of qualitative studies

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Inappropriate and overuse of antimicrobials is increasing antimicrobial resistance. Understanding physicians' antimicrobial decision‐making is essential for developing interventions to optimize prescribing. The aim of this review was to identify the factors that influence physicians' antimicrobial prescribing decisions.
