Inorganic Salts Induce Thermally Reversible and Anti-Freezing Cellulose Hydrogels.

Angewandte Chemie, 2019
Inspired by the anti-freezing mechanisms found in nature, ionic compounds (ZnCl2 /CaCl2 ) are integrated into cellulose hydrogel networks to enhance the freezing resistance. In this work, cotton cellulose is dissolved by a specially designed ZnCl2 /CaCl2

Cellulosic nanocomposite membranes from hydroxypropyl cellulose reinforced by cellulose nanocrystals

Cellulose, 2014
Cellulosic nanocomposite membranes were prepared by incorporation of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) into a hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) matrix using a mixing/evaporation technique. CNCs were obtained from filter paper using the sulfuric acid hydrolysis method with the aid of ultrasonication.

Cellulose

2023
Cellulose: Development, Processing, and Applications covers topics related to advanced cellulose development and processing, as well as the utilization of major agricultural and biomass waste. It discusses the utilization of cellulose from other agricultural and biomass materials, including oil palm biomass, bamboo, and other non-wood forest products ...

Cellulose: Chemistry of Cellulose Derivatization

2012
This chapter gives an overview on various possibilities of cellulose functionalization. Particular attention was paid on homogeneous-phase conversions of cellulose in reaction media based on both aprotic-dipolar solvents in combination with salts and ionic liquids. Paths for cellulose esterification via in situ activated carboxylic acids are discussed.

Electrospinning Cellulose and Cellulose Derivatives

Polymer Reviews, 2008
Many solvents suitable for wet or dry spinning of cellulose and cellulose derivatives have also been investigated as solvents for electrospinning. Solvents for cellulose are not completely volatile and have required coagulation steps to ensure complete removal of the solvent from electrospun fibers and produce stable fibers.

Thermal Degradation of Cellulose and Cellulosic Substrates

2015
This chapter is aimed to thoroughly describe the thermal degradation of cellulose and cellulosic substrates (like cotton and paper), investigating the involved reaction mechanisms. After a brief introduction about the real reasons that motivated the study on cellulose degradation, a first general introduction on cellulose thermal degradation (namely ...

Model Cellulose Compounds. Unmodified Celluloses

1995
In order to apply infrared spectroscopy effectively to the study of the structures of cellulose and its derivatives, and of the mechanisms of their reactions, it is first necessary to interpret the main infrared absorption bands. For this purpose it is convenient to begin with an investigation of the infrared spectra of various types of mono-, di-, and
