Characterization of Droplet Formation in Ultrasonic Spray Coating: Influence of Ink Formulation Using Phase Doppler Anemometry and Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study explores how machine learning models, trained on small experimental datasets obtained via Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA), can accurately predict droplet size (D32) in ultrasonic spray coating (USSC). By capturing the influence of ink complexity (solvent, polymer, nanoparticles), power, and flow rate, the model enables precise droplet control

Optimization of Cellulose Acetate with Acetylation from Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) using Respon Surface Methodology (RSM) [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Empty fruit bunches (EFB) are a kind of biomass waste from the palm oil industry with a cellulose content of 45.95%. Cellulose can be modified into cellulose acetate through an acetylation process, resulting in a product that has the potential to be ...

Preparation and characterization of cellulose acetate membranes with TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibrils containing alkyl ammonium carboxylates

open access: yes, 2020
Cellulose acetate (CA) membranes have been widely used for water purification owing to several advantages, e.g., biocompatibility and low fouling rate. However, they suffer from a lower water flux compared to the other polymeric membranes.

On the dissolution of cellulose in tetrabutylammonium acetate/dimethyl sulfoxide : a frustrated solvent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We have found that the dissolution of cellulose in the binary mixed solvent tetrabutylammonium acetate/dimethyl sulfoxide follows a previously overlooked near-stoichiometric relationship such that one dissolved acetate ion is able to dissolve an amount ...

The undesirable acetylation of cellulose by the acetate ion of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate

open access: yes, 2011
The ionic liquid (IL) 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([C2mim]OAc) is considered to be an inert solvent of cellulose and lignocellulosic biomass. Acetylation (1.7 % mol, or DS 0.017) of cellulose after dissolution in [C2mim]OAc (150 °C for 20 min ...

Cellulosic materials as biopolymers and supercritical CO2as a green process: chemistry and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this review, we describe the use of supercritical CO2 (scCO2) in several cellulose applications. The focus is on different technologies that either exist or are expected to emerge in the near future.

Red Fluorescent Protein‐Metal Organic Framework Hybrids for Lighting Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate the encapsulation in a metal‐organic framework (MOF) of two red fluorescent proteins, DsRed and mCherry. The materials conserve all spectroscopical and structural properties of the underlying components, which allows for their implementation as color down‐converting materials in bio‐hybrid light‐emitting diodes, which exhibit average 3 ...

Hydrophobic Modification of Cellulose Acetate and Its Application in the Field of Water Treatment: A Review

open access: yesMolecules
With the inherent demand for hydrophobic materials in processes such as membrane distillation and unidirectional moisture conduction, the preparation and application development of profiles such as modified cellulose acetate membranes that have both ...

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.
