Fundamental properties of industrial hybrid cement: utilization in ready-mixed concretes and shrinkage-reducing applications

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2016
Utility properties of novel hybrid cement (H-Cement) are influenced by pozzolanic reaction of fly ash, latent hydraulic reaction of metallurgical slag together with the alkali activation of inorganic geopolymer based on precipitated waste water coming ...

From liquid to solid bonding in cohesive granular media [PDF]

open access: yesMechanics of Materials (2011) 529-537, 2010
We study the transition of a granular packing from liquid to solid bonding in the course of drying. The particles are initially wetted by a liquid brine and the cohesion of the packing is ensured by capillary forces, but the crystallization of the solute transforms the liquid bonds into partially cemented bonds.

Multifunctional Neural Probes Enable Bidirectional Electrical, Optical, and Chemical Recording and Stimulation In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Convergence drawing is used to create flexible, microscale, multifunctional fiber‐based neural probes. Optimized materials selection enables individual devices to perform neural recording, electrical stimulation, optogenetics, fiber photometry, fluid delivery, and voltammetric neurotransmitter detection in rodents.

Liquid-Solid Phase Transition Alloy as Reversible and Rapid Molding Bone Cement [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Bone cement has been demonstrated as an essential restorative material in the orthopedic surgery. However current materials often imply unavoidable drawbacks, such as tissue-cement reaction induced thermal injuries and troublesome revision procedure.

Cementron: Machine Learning the Constituent Phases in Cement Clinker from Optical Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Cement is the most used construction material. The performance of cement hydrate depends on the constituent phases, viz. alite, belite, aluminate, and ferrites present in the cement clinker, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Traditionally, clinker phases are analyzed from optical images relying on a domain expert and simple image processing ...

Functional Biomaterials Derived from Protein Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation and Liquid‐to‐Solid Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Protein can undergo liquid–liquid phase separation and liquid‐to‐solid transition to form liquid condensates and solid aggregates. These phase transitions can be influenced by post‐translational modifications, mutations, and various environmental factors.

Hierarchical meta-modelling of stone injected with CNT/cement mortar [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This paper presents an innovative hierarchical meta-modelling approach for predicting the effective elastic properties of stone injected with composite cement grouts containing Carbon NanoTubes (CNTs) for structural rehabilitation purposes. The study first addresses the homogenization of the nano- and micro-scales through numerical representative ...

Optimal cement paste yield stress for the production of stable cement foams [PDF]

open access: yesCement and Concrete Research (2019) 120, pp 142-151, 2019
Production of morphology-controlled cement foams remains challenging, mainly due to bubble stability issues during cement setting. The use of cement paste with high yield stress is expected to promote stability by damping intrinsic bubble kinetics. Here we show however that for given W/C ratio, fresh foam stability can be achieved instead by decreasing
