A comprehensive monitoring of physico‐chemical properties of water by magnetization and impedance spectroscopy

open access: yesRiver, EarlyView.
Abstract This study describes the effect of electromagnetic field (EMF) treatment on the chemical and electrical properties of tap water. It also contributes to a better understanding of the influence of this technique on the physicochemical properties of water exposed to different treatment times by an EMF generated by the Aqua 4D.

100 Years of Concrete Pavements in Iowa Final Report, March 2009

open access: yes, 2009
Portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements have given excellent service history for Iowa. The first concrete pavement was placed in Le Mars in 1904 and was in service until 1968. The Eddyville Cemetery Road placed in 1909 is still in service today.

The Hidden Costs of Coffee Production in the Eastern African Value Chains

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT There is increasing recognition that significant hidden costs associated with agrifood systems are not reflected in market prices. Coffee is among the three most traded agricultural commodities in the world and supports the livelihoods of more than 30 million smallholder households.

Leveraging Life Cycle Assessment for Informing Packaging Eco‐Design and Eco‐Modulation

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Eco‐modulation is designed to promote the adoption of eco‐design. However, in practice, its application is mostly concentrated on end‐of‐life (EoL) optimization. This study addresses the gap by proposing a framework to assess product–packaging systems as integrated units throughout the full life cycle.

Effects of pre-hydration on hydraulic properties on Portland cement and synthetic clinker phases

open access: yes, 2008
The ageing of cements (CEM I 52,5 R and API Oilwell Class G) and also the pure cement clinker minerals (C3S, pure C3A, Na2O-doped C3A, C4AF and calcium sulphate hemihydrate) has been studied at 60% and 85% RH using in-situ XRD, calorimetry, ESEM, XPS and

How Program‐ and Community‐Led Design Settings Affect Resilience Approaches to Sustainable Development Projects

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sustainable Development interventions must deal with rapid and novel changes affecting complex social‐ecological systems, calling for design based on a resilience approach. However, limited analytical attention has been paid to the design settings in which such approaches are deployed.
