Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Contestation, no censure: Motions in post-communist Romania (1989-2008)

open access: yesSfera Politicii, 2012
Confidence motions introduced in the Romanian Parliament in 1989-2008 represented important tools of legislative control over the executive. Simple and censure motions employed by the opposition against the government tackled the most important issues ...

L’Humanité dans la mêlée (1914-1918)

open access: yesCahiers d’histoire, 2003
La situation du quotidien L’Humanité dans La Grande Guerre est un épisode oublié, voire négligé, alors que la production historique consacrée à la Première Guerre mondiale donne le « vertige » 1.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

L’adaptation des bandes dessinées américaines et italiennes en France dans les années 1930 et 1940

open access: yesComicalités, 2013
The creation of the Journal de Mickey in 1934 gives the signal to the introduction of foreign comics in France. First American and then Italian, these works will invite children publishers to question the inclusion of these images in a new editorial ...

From the Banned Telefilm to the Feature Film: the Two Versions of Alan Clarke’s Scum (1977-1979)

open access: yesRevue LISA, 2013
Alan Clarke’s Scum, originally made for the BBC’s Play for Today series in 1977, has become a cause célèbre in the history of film censorship. Although the film had already been scheduled, it was eventually banned and only broadcast in 1991, a year after

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

For richer, for poorer: marriage and casualized sex in East African artisanal mining settlements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Migrants to Tanzania's artisanal gold mining sites seek mineral wealth, which is accompanied by high risks of occupational hazards, economic failure, AIDS and social censure from their home communities. Male miners in these settlements compete to attract

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
