COACT: Coronary artery centerline tracker
Medical Physics, 2023AbstractBackgroundThe curved planar reformation (CPR) technique is one of the most commonly used methods in clinical practice to locate coronary arteries in medical images.PurposeThe artery centerline is the cornerstone for the generation of the CPR image. Here, we describe the development of a new fully automatic artery centerline tracker with the aim

Automatic centerline extraction for virtual colonoscopy
IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, 2002In this paper, we introduce a concise and concrete definition of an accurate colon centerline and provide an efficient automatic means to extract the centerline and its associated branches (caused by a forceful touching of colon and small bowel or a deep fold in twisted colon lumen).

2021 43rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2021
Coronary artery extraction in cardiac CT angiography (CCTA) image volume is a necessary step for any quantitative assessment of stenoses and atherosclerotic plaque. In this work, we propose a fully automated workflow that depends on convolutional networks to extract the centerlines of the coronary arteries from CCTA image volumes, starting from ...

Colon centerline extraction in fragmented segmentations
2015 37th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2015In virtual colonoscopy, the clinical need is a smooth centered path from the rectum to the cecum, for interactive navigation along the colonic lumen. The primary challenge is breakages in the colon, due to fecal residue, abnormalities, poor insufflation and inadequate electronic cleansing. Here we propose a method, that is a modification of the classic

Ordered multi-path propagation for vessel centerline extraction
Physics in Medicine & Biology, 2021Abstract Vessel centerline extraction from x-ray angiography images is essential for vessel structure analysis in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. However, complete and continuous centerline extraction remains a challenging task due to image noise, poor contrast, and complexity of vessel structure.

Centerline porosity in plate castings
Metallurgical Transactions B, 1985Centerline porosity in horizontally cast steel plates has been examined analytically. The presence and extent of porosity has been calculated on the basis of heat flow in the system and interdendritic fluid flow. The calculated distribution of porosity was found to agree closely with measured values reported in the literature.

Lumen centerline detection in complex coronary angiograms
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1994We have developed a method for lumen centerline detection in individual coronary segments that is based on simultaneous detection of the approximate positions of the left and right coronary borders. This approach emulates that of a clinician who visually identifies the lumen centerline as the midline between the simultaneously-determined left and right

Centerline‐based colon segmentation for CT colonography
Medical Physics, 2005We have developed a fully automated algorithm for colon segmentation, centerline‐based segmentation (CBS), which is faster than any of the previously presented segmentation algorithms, but also has high sensitivity as well as high specificity. The algorithm first thresholds a set of unprocessed CT slices.

Numerical treatment of cylindrical coordinate centerline singularities
35th Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1999Abstract The grid singularity located at the centerline in a cylindrical coordinate system can exhibit numerical instabilities when finite differences are used to approximate the spatial derivatives contained in the equations of fluid motion. Results from previous work has indicated that the root cause of centerline instability is due to the error from

Femoropopliteal artery centerline interpolation using contralateral shape
Medical Physics, 2007Curved planar reformation allows comprehensive visualization of arterial flow channels, providing information about calcified and noncalcified plaques and degrees of stenoses. Existing semiautomated centerline‐extraction algorithms for curved planar reformation generation fail in severely diseased and occluded arteries.
