Central Venous Pressure and Arterial Blood Pressure Measurements

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice, 2001
Arterial blood pressure measurement and central venous pressure monitoring are important tools in the management of the critically ill pet. Central venous pressure is reflective of right atrial pressure and provides information concerning volume status. Arterial blood pressure is helpful in determining if perfusion to vital tissues is adequate.

Central blood volume and blood pressure in conscious primates

American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1988
Conscious intact (I) and sinoaortic-denervated monkeys (SAD) were studied to determine the extent to which high-pressure receptors contribute to the maintenance of arterial blood pressure (BP) when venous return is decreased by hemorrhage (H) or lower body negative pressure (LBNP).

Antihypertensive drugs and central blood pressure

Current Hypertension Reports, 2009
Recent evidence suggests that central blood pressure is a more important determinant of cardiovascular risk than brachial pressure. Interestingly, antihypertensive drugs exert different effects on brachial and central pressure. Traditional beta-blockers, such as atenolol, appear to have an adverse impact on central pressure, despite lowering brachial ...

The olive and central control of blood pressure

Medical Hypotheses, 1978
This evidence, then, would suggest that the olive becomes active when, with a change in the motor task, the motor performance is required to adjust to the new circumstance. From Smith's experiments on blood pressure, it is extrapolated that the olive becomes active when there is a change in the physiological state, and the autonomic performance is ...

Central Regulation of Arterial Blood Pressure

Clinical Science, 1974
1. Cats were anaesthetized with pentobarbitone sodium. The hypothalamus was superfused with drugs through a push-pull cannula and electrically stimulated with the non-insulated tip of the cannula. In another series of experiments, the hypothalamus was stimulated with a monopolar electrode and the nucleus of the solitary tract superfused with drugs ...

Central serotonergic participation on blood pressure regulation

General Pharmacology: The Vascular System, 1982
1. The changes on blood pressure induced by pharmacological handling of serotonergic systems were studied in normotensive anesthetized rats. Administration of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) (5, 10 and 30 mg/kg i.v.) produced a dose-dependent decrease in mean blood pressure without significative effect on heart rate. 2.

Central Blood Pressure and Prehypertension

2018
Measurement of blood pressure is one of the most important and powerful clinical tools in clinical practice. Assessment of central blood pressures makes its way from the research field to the clinical field. There are still answers that remain to be answered concerning the incremental predictive ability of central blood pressures over peripheral blood ...

Central effects of sympathomimetic amines on the blood pressure

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1971
Abstract The cat hypothalamus was labelled with 14 C-noradrenaline and after 4 hr superfused with artificial cerebrospinal fluid containing tropolone and nialamide. Superfusion with noradrenaline and adrenaline enhanced the release of radioactive amines from the hypothalamus and caused a dose-dependent rise of peripheral blood pressure.

Implications for dopamine in central blood pressure regulation

European Heart Journal, 1982
The relationship between central nervous system blood pressure regulation and dopaminergic activity was investigated in anesthetized rats. The anterior hypothalamic/pre-optic region was unilaterally superfused push-pull cannula or unilaterally stimulated using a bipolar electrode.

Large Vessels in Hypertension: Central Blood Pressure

2019
Children and adolescents with high normal blood pressure and/or high arterial stiffness have a high risk for developing hypertension. Modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, such as dietary salt intake, fructose, and lifestyles including food sources—processed and fast foods—, sleep patterns, stress, and reductions in physical activity, play a crucial ...
