Geochemical, isotopic, and zircon (U-Pb, O, Hf isotopes) evidence for the magmatic sources of the volcano-plutonic Ollo de Sapo Formation, Central Iberia

open access: yesGeologica Acta, 2017
The Ollo de Sapo Formation comprises variably metamorphosed felsic peraluminous volcanic rocks and highlevel granites that crop out over some 600km from the Cantabrian coast to central Spain in the northern part of the Central Iberian Zone.

First evidence of lamprophyric magmatism within the Subbetic Zone (Southern Spain)

open access: yesGeologica Acta, 2010
Two drillings carried out at Cerro Prieto (Province of Málaga), together with additional geophysical data, revealed the existence of an igneous body formed of rock-types previously unknown in the Subbetic zone.

An investigation into the controls of granite plutonism in the Sierra da Freita region, Northern Portugal

open access: yes, 2012
The Serra da Freita region of north central Portugal was chosen for study as it displays the complex relationships between regional structure, plutonism, regional and contact metamorphism typical of this part of Iberia.

Occurrence of Silurian trilobites in graptolitic black shales (Telychian, Llandovery) from the Central Iberian Zone (Spain)

open access: yes, 1996
The first Silurian trilobites from the Spanish part of the Central Iberian Zone are described and illustrated. They have been identified as Preodontochile batalleri (Hernández Sampelayo, 1944), a phacopine species previously known in Telychian black ...

Beyond Genes: Metabolomic Evidence Indicates Potential Species‐Level Differentiation in European Wild Rabbits

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 6, Page 645-656, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) plays a key ecological role in Mediterranean ecosystems, yet its populations are declining. Two subspecies, O. c. algirus and O. c. cuniculus, are present in the Iberian Peninsula and exhibit genetic, phenotypic, and ecological differences.

Worldwide Invasions of Centrarchidae: The Dark Side of the Sunfish Family

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 781-812, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Freshwater fish invasions are major drivers of global ecological change, disrupting native biodiversity and ecosystem functions. However, many invasive fish hold significant socioeconomic value, resulting in conflict over their management. Centrarchidae, which are globally distributed and are important for sportfishing and aquaculture, are now

Advancing Ecological Understanding and Sustainable Management of Small Pelagic Fish

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 850-864, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Small pelagic fish (SPF) are critical to the trophodynamic structure and function of marine systems and support some of the most valuable and socially important fisheries worldwide. Their “boom and bust” population dynamics, shifts in distribution, and importance as forage resources for other fish stocks place unique challenges to assessing ...

Foraging Ecology and Fisheries Interactions of Common Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) Inferred From Strandings in Western Iberian Atlantic Waters

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 42, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) is a resident species along the Portuguese mainland coast, yet knowledge of its stranding patterns and feeding ecology is scarce. This study presents a comprehensive assessment of strandings (n = 264, from 1980 to 2019) and feeding ecology based on stomach content analysis (n = 43 from 1997 to

Seismic Characterization of the Central Iberian Zone from the Surface to the Upper Mantle

open access: yes, 2014
The multi-seismic experiments carried out under the ALCUDIA research initiative include a normal incidence and a wide-angle seismic reflection datasets. These constrain the internal architecture, the detailed crustal and lithospheric structure and, provide the necessary knowledge on physical properties across the Central Iberia Zone.
