Bedbug infestations recorded in Central Italy
Parasitology International, 2007In summer 2003 two separate infestations due to the common bedbug (Cimex lectularius) occurred in Pisa, Italy. Cutaneous reaction was evident and one patient developed a severe bullous eruption. In both cases there was circumstantial evidence for association with international travel.

Scrapie in sheep in central and southern Italy
Veterinary Research Communications, 1988Seven cases of scrapie were encountered in six flocks of local breeds of sheep in central and southern Italy. Scrapie has never been reported in these areas, in which the great majority of the Italian sheep population is concentrated. The diagnosis was based on clinical and histopathological findings.

Epidemiology of carcinoid tumours in central Italy
European Journal of Epidemiology, 1997Between 1985 and 1991, 83 carcinoid tumours were diagnosed in the province of Florence where the Tuscany Tumour Registry is active. There were 44 males and 39 females. The age-adjusted incidence was 0.65 cases/100,000 population/year. The most common location was the lung (30.1%), followed by colorectum (25.2%) and small intestine (22.8%).

Report on an outbreak of trichinellosis in Central Italy
European Journal of Epidemiology, 1992At the end of 1988 an outbreak of trichinellosis involving 48 persons occurred in a small town in Central Italy, near the Appennine mountains. The epidemic was caused by the ingestion of sausages recently made with wild boar meat. The people affected were mostly relatives and friends of hunters.

Earthquake effects on tourism in central Italy
Annals of Tourism Research, 2001Abstract This paper proposes an approach to economic assessment of the impact on tourist flows of the earthquake that hit the Umbria region in Central Italy on September 26, 1997. Local arrivals in Assisi fell drastically the month following the main shock, compared to the same month of the previous year.
