Sustained reduction of healthcare-associated infections after the introduction of a bundle for prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia in medical-surgical intensive care units

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2020
Background: Infection control interventions can be erroneously interpreted if outcomes are assessed in short periods. Also, statistical methods usually applied to compare outcomes before and after interventions are not appropriate for analyzing time ...

Central Line–Associated Bloodstream Infection in Neonatal Intensive Care Units [PDF]

open access: yesInfection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, 2012
Objective.Describe the epidemiology of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) participating in a standardized and mandatory CLABSI surveillance program.Design.Retrospective cohort.Setting.We included patients admitted (April 2007-March 2011) to 7 level II/III NICUs who developed a CLABSI (as ...

Loss of SHP1 in Spinal Astrocytes Triggers T‐Lymphocyte Infiltration and Nociceptive Hypersensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Astrocyte‐specific SHP1 deletion disrupts astrocyte–vascular interactions and compromises BBB integrity while enhancing STAT1‐dependent CXCL10 expression. These changes synergistically promote peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration into the SDH. The infiltrating T cells secrete IFN‐γ, which in turn activates microglia.

Infection Control Bundles for the Prevention of Hospital Infections [PDF]

open access: yesMediterranean Journal of Infection, Microbes and Antimicrobials, 2016
The incidence of hospital-acquired infections increases due to the rising use of invasive procedures and increased length of hospital stay. The incidence of colonization and infection with multidrug-resistant microorganisms also increased along with the ...

Targeting β2‐Adrenergic Receptor Stability With Lycorine Reveals a Host‐Directed Pathway for Antiviral Defense Against Poxviruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic stress drives autophagy‐mediated β2‐AR degradation, impairing antiviral immunity and promoting poxvirus lethality. Lycorine directly stabilizes β2‐AR to restore host defense, suppress excessive inflammation and improve survival. ABSTRACT Psychological stress is a pervasive yet poorly understood modulator of infectious disease outcomes. Here, we

Preventing Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI)

open access: yes, 2015
The dominance of central-line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) prevention has become a powerful far-reaching endeavor in recent years. The purpose of this evidence-based practice project is to examine the best practices for preventing central ...

Artificial Intelligence‐Empowered Single‐Cell Phenotyping for Rapid, Automated Pathogen Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents an integrated diagnostic platform that combines microfluidic single‐cell bacterial detection with artificial intelligence‐driven analysis for rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Single‐cell phenotyping enables assessment of antibiotic response in only a few cell replication cycles, while AI analysis supports precise bacterial
