Pharmacokinetic–Pharmacodynamic Modeling of the Effect of Triamcinolone Acetonide on Central Macular Thickness in Patients with Diabetic Macular Edema

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2004
To develop a population model capable of describing the profile of the effect of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of diabetic diffuse macular edema. The results of 51 injections in 37 eyes (33 patients) with diffuse diabetic macular edema were studied, by using population pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling, without ...

Implantable drug delivery system: Frontiers of medicine‐engineering interdisciplinary

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
This review systematically summarizes the driving mechanisms of implantable on‐demand drug delivery systems (IDDS), including endogenous, exogenous, and closed‐loop strategies. It highlights the pivotal roles of flexible electronics and miniaturization in enhancing the tissue conformity and spatial adaptability.

Salt‐induced nutritional and metabolic shifts in halophytes: implications for food security

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Plant species vary in their response to salinity: some crops show a degree of salt tolerance, while halophytes – whether wild or cultivated – are characterized by a high capacity to thrive under saline conditions. Halophytes are considered a source of valuable secondary metabolites with potential economic value, yet they might also produce ...

Assessment of macular function in patients with idiopathic Epiretinal membrane by multifocal Electroretinography: correlation with visual acuity and optical coherence tomography

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2017
Background This study evaluates the macular function changes in patients with idiopathic macular epiretinal membrane (ERM) by multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) and their correlations with visual acuity and central macular thickness (CMT) by optical ...

Peripapillary and macular choroidal thickness in glaucoma. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
PurposeTo compare choroidal thickness (CT) between individuals with and without glaucomatous damage and to explore the association of peripapillary and submacular CT with glaucoma severity using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT ...

Long-term rearrangement of retinal structures in a novel mutation of X-linked retinoschisis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of the present study was to report a novel mutation in the retinoschisin 1 (RS1) gene in a Caucasian family affected by X-linked juvenile retinoschisis (XLRS) and to describe the long-term modification of retinal structure.

Quantifying Dehydration Effects of Porcine Vocal Fold Attenuation With Optical Coherence Tomography

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The purpose of this study is to use optical coherence tomography (OCT) to characterize the effect of dehydration on the optical attenuation coefficient of porcine vocal fold (VF) tissue. The optical attenuation coefficient tissue decreased linearly with dehydration, dropping by approximately 0.08 mm−1 for every 1% increase in mass loss.
